I really like the 7.00 x 15 (30" diam) tires, but would like my Jeep to be a bit lower, which I why I am curious if anyone has used the H78-15 (29.2" diam) or G78-15 28.5" diam) tires.

Welcome from Michigan, Are your springs stock? Maybe a PO put higher lift springs on it? If that's it in your aviator it looks lifted. Welcome to the forum.

    Hi Rick,

Yes, that's my CJ5. The PO put on 31 x 10.5 x 15 wheels and tires. Plus 4" shackles. I'm ordering stock shackles Monday, so that will be solved (Oh, and some Monroes). I want it DOWN! But not as low as 6.00 x 16 tires.

    Springs are stock.

Note that the most common factory tires for intermediate Jeeps were H78-15 Goodyear Polyglas Suburbanites. Any of the factory literature from that era will show Jeeps with the factory height and tires.

IMG_2386.PNG I bought these 700-15 bias ply. Really like them. They are 29.5" at best though advertised as 30"

Tim, I wonder if this is what you are referring to: Directory Index: Jeep/1962_Jeep/1962_Jeep_Full_Line_Brochure

Pete, thanks for the Bing link. However, I am looking for CJ5 photos with tires, not just the tires themselves.

Fyrmn, I like them too, but the H78-15 are not as tall. I'm trying to get comparison Jeep photos.

64 cj5 at home small.jpg When I bought my 64 CJ5, it had the 7.00 X 15 tube type mud and snow tires. They look great and I don't mind running them, but they are really weather checked.
I love the look of these. When I replace them it will be something similiar.

Found this pic online. Tires/wheels might not be exact. Looks pretty stock.

Dave, thanks, that's a good photo. The more I see 7.00 x 15, the more I notice I want something smaller. I am not certain if it's the tires that look as though there is too much rubber showing, or if it's just smaller wheels. But this is why I like seeing photos :)

Noah, I've seen and saved that photo. I am not positive, but I have the photo marked as 7.50 x 16.

Here's a photo I just found today. The tires are 225/75R16. I hope the owner will come on here and see his Jeep so I can verify that size:

    225-75R16 DSC05313.jpg

This is more the size I am looking for, but I prefer more of an AT or MT tread.

This is my Jeep with 15" X 7" wheels and 7:50 X 15" tires. It has 1" lift Rancho springs[IMG]
on it, they were installed in 07, so they have probably settled by now.

This 73 was about four years old in this photo. It had been in the salt on NC beaches and already received extensive rust repair and repaint. It has the original H78-15 Goodyear tires on it.

My '66 had L-78 15's on it. I still have 2 tires in the Jeep shop for display, but replaced with the closest modern size, LT235 75R15 on stock steel wheels, 15x5.

Rick, thanks for posting. Your tires are too big for what I want, but GEEZ, you have a BEAUTIFUL Jeep!!

Mark, that's what I've been looking for!!

Roy, I've collected numerous photos of your fine Jeep. I mulled it over off and on for a week whether I wanted 235/75/15s, but finally realized I want smaller.

Love the photos, they're what I've been wanting.

    Maury,

Thanks for posting! I have been talking with Brian about his Y742S's. As a matter of fact, it was Brian's CJ5 that caused me to buy mine. I saw his at a car show, what a great restoration.

These were H78-15 town & country tires from Sears (it may have been JC Penney 's) but that was in '85. Definitely H78-15's though.
