I don't have the clamps and hangers installed yet. It is all pretty stiff without them but I'll get them on before I hit the road. There isn't much to bolt the hangers to on the Jeep in the area just behind the mufflers. I may just bolt thru the floorboard and use a big washer on top. Open to other ideas....

Mufflers - SUM-631125 I'd prefer mufflers that inlet and outlet on the same side but apparently they don't make them that way (in this price range).
    Tail pipes - APH-14343
    Hangers - SUM-630550
    Clamps - SUM-G4625-1

Where did you get the chromed tailpipe? I did not see it on the list.

The tailpipe isn’t chrome. Just a good picture I guess. It is the one on the list.

One step forward and two steps back this weekend.

    Forward
    1. put in new fuel pump.
    2. moved the PS gear back 1.5" to allow the radiator to drop down to proper height. Also drilled mount for two 1/2" bolts (was one bolt)

    Back
    1. installed stock fan, will cut PS belt if I ran it.
    2. Rear shock mounts with the YJ spring conversion set are 2" wider on each side than on the jeep.
    3. PS hoses I had made are wrong and I had PS hooked up backwards. You will know there is something wrong very quickly when you do this!!
    4. New lug bolts would not install on rear. I think I have the wrong bolts.

The big step forward is the jeep did run for the first time in 10+ years and Wife and I took a trip around the block! Parking Brake only!!

Little stuff getting done this week. Moving around brake lines. Putting on shocks. Trying to get timing right. A bunch of other stuff.

Here’s one taillight. Not at all traditional but I like them.

Third brake light is mounted on a small piece of sheet medal. Captured by the lug nut.

That's pretty cool. Even though these Jeeps are way older than the third brake light concept, I like the idea of having one as that's what people are used to seeing and 'programmed' to react to or whatever.

LED backup lights. I didn’t want these to stick out so much so they are just peaking under the corner of the spare.

The tire isn’t blocking much of anything really.

Our office was closed today ( just about everything in the FL panhandle was) for the hurricane. Had most of the afternoon to mess with the Jeep so I started bleeding the brakes. Lots of connections to the proportioning valve. Several leaks. I think I have the MC bled well. Still have to get fluid out to the wheels.

And, I got the timing set!! Drove around the block without any backfire!! That was cool. Brakes will be really cool!!

You'd be surprised what you can do with metal polish and elbow grease on plated steel. It can look nearly as good as chrome.
Aluminized steel, the material on the tailpipes, can be polished.

Is this a regular open differential? Limited slip?

Since the body is off now I'm going to work out some remaining issues. I started in the rear of the jeep and will work forward. Just replaced the pinion seal for now. Looking for a decent used yoke and can easily redo that. I waited for the RTV on the cover to set 24 hours before putting oil in. Now after about 14hrs not one drop from the yoke/pinion.

Next I put on the rear shocks. I'm not thrilled with the way the mounts line up with the new YJ spring plates.

I also redid the mounting bracket for the parking brake cable to use the outer hole on the brake lever arm.

Installed these muffler hangers. They were too long to install on the top of the pipe but I think this 90* mounting will be fine.

New u joints on the rear shaft.

Hoped to stop the leak from the speedo hole by installing the cable. still leaks.

    Good afternoon of Jeep progress.

Tonight I took off the parking brake and rear cover on TC. Trying to stem the tide of oil that flows onto my garage floor. The seal I got at local Advanced Auto is wrong. No surprise there as 1/2 of everything I get there is wrong. Local NAPA is lots better, but they close at 6pm.

Going on road trip with wife for a few days so this sits unfinished until next week.

It took me a week+ to get the rear seal replaced in TC. Had a bit of learning curve to get thru for the bearing cap and end play.

Saw something similar here so I made a tool to pull oil seal. Worked well.

Oil has been in here for 2days now and not a drop on the floor. Likely a different story when it runs and moves around.

Installed new front driveshaft. Dana 30 swap made the original front shaft unusable without modifications. New front TC yoke allowed me to upgraded to 1310 U-joints with u-bolt mounting instead of the weaker strap on the smaller U-joints.

Tonight I relocated the front brake hoses for the second time. :banghead: Painted the welds on the shock tower/mounts. Made a couple new short brake lines and got all that installed.

I’ve posted about issues with intake manifold in another thread but wanted to have it all here as well.

The top heater hose was leaking and here’s why. The hose fitting is rusted thru.

I wanted to remove the manifold as I thought it may have a vacuum leak. But The gaskets all look good now it’s apart. Now I need to get that fitting off.

Well that manifold was rusty and paint chipped. I wanted to have it blasted and painted fresh but time and money said DIY. I wire brushed it for a bit blew it off and hit it with rust converter. I think this will work well as long as rust converter holds up to whatever temperature the intake manifold reaches?? Tomorrow I’ll paint the manifold and new water pump.
