    Starter numbers-

    Lucas Brand-
    26192B 8 65
    M45G 12V

    Lester- 18263- (I think. To verify 8/20/14)

** On EDIT- The above starter did not work. Still working on a solution for a new replacement rather than a rebuild. **

I hope this is ok to post in this thread....really like your perkins powered jeeps thanks for the pics.We never got the perkins option in australia but we did get quiet a few of the Isuzu diesel powered CJ7s...I have a perkins in my Massey tractor and they are an excellent motor. I thought this brochure might be of interest i never knew that the perkins was an option in the later cj5 and cj7..cheers Mike

Update- My guy thinks he finally found a new starter that is correct for these. We shall see and I'll post up here if it does. In the meantime, I had to install a new bendix drive on my old one. It's been working ok but conks out every now and again. Maybe a solenoid issue.

AusM38A1......very neat CJ Diesel International Brochure! looking at the CJ bodies and hair styles I would guess this was from the 1970s. The US market only had the diesel CJs for about 5-6 years from 1961 to about 1967 I believe. Love diesels!!!!!
Notice the CJ7 Diesel in the ad.....CJ7 was not introduced until 1976 so they were still producing diesel jeeps up through at least the late 1970s for the International markets. I wonder how long they continued?

I own Perkins powered CJ6 # 8410 014 10634. Yes, it has that extra 014 in the serial number and is numbered 59 higher than what the chart shows as being the last production number of 10575 in the the sixth month of 1967. I'll post an actual photo of the serial number plate when I get a chance.
It runs and drives and I'm about to start restoration. As far as I can tell I'm the third owner.

I love when an anomoly like this comes to light!
On a side note, there was a CJ5 Tuxedo Park on eBay a few weeks ago, maybe near Orlando, FL that had a Perkins in it, but it was a larger displacement version (236?), likely an industrial unit.
There was another Jeep Perkins engine on eBay out of Pennsylvania back in April. See completed listings #1831 9628 1429.

Edit: I found the ebay listing (under completed listings) as item #1428 4031 7397 For the Tux with a Perkins. It was up in St. Petersburg, FL. The specs on the Perkins 236 show close to 1,100 lbs!

off topic but relevant question....these jeeps that came with the perkins, did they have the front end beefed up? or is this a light diesel motor?

Well.... It isn't light, but it's light enough that nothing was "beefed up" up front that I can tell besides maybe a HD spring package. But I think most CJ6's got that anyway.

I'd love to figure out what the 014 is all about in Driveby's VIN. Anybody ever seen anything like it or heard of it?

There is a table near the bottom of this page that describes the 5th, 6th and 7th digit of the VIN.

Kaiser Jeep 60-67 Serial Numbers on CJ3B.info

5th is GVW code. 0 looks like a placeholder or used on models other than CJ?
    6th is LHD/RHD code. 1=LHD
7th is engine code. 4=F134 according to that chart. I suspect that since it is the latest diesel known that the "stamper dude" put 4 for 4 cylinder?

I guess that makes sense. I've just never seen one with the extra digits. Mine is 8410 10449. 8410 being open body diesel CJ6, 10449 being the sequential serial number. Is the 014 a special order number? That makes sense too I guess being as late as it is. I don't see anything that leads me to believe that it's not legit. I'm just super curious why we've never seen that before. So far I would guess "0" denotes a special order, "1" indicates LHD like suggested, and "4" in this case doesn't denote F head, it just denotes 4 cylinder as ojgrsoi suggested. Great find nonetheless!

I think sometime in 67 the center three digits started.

The 2.8 sounds like an awesome power plant. Would love 30 plus MPG.

I just purchased a CJ6 8410 10441. It is completely disassembled, so I will probably need some help getting it back together!

Hi Al- It's Mitch from FB. I think my build thread may be helpful to you. New Perkins CJ-6 . I think most of my photos survived the Photobucket re-arranging.

Where were you guys 10 or so days ago when Jim Allen (4xwriter) need axle ratio info back on May 25th? What axle ratios were used on the Diesel Jeeps?
