I bought the black '53 CJ3B someone posted a few weeks ago. I'll write more about it later. I decided to paint the WILLYS embossings and ordered a template off of eBay. The seller is probably a genius, selling the cut-out letters to one person, and selling the remainder as a template to someone like me. The stencil didn't stick as well as I would have liked. I first sprayed flat black to try and seal the edges (sort of worked) and then sprayed gloss white. I might be able to use the template again on the hood once the paint dries, that is if the backside will stick again. The result is ok, not spectacular. Once the paint dries, I should probably do something to make the new white letters look 65 years old.

Painstakingly finished filing the grooves in the pitman arm. 4 flats roughed in with the hacksaw and finished in with the triangle file. I have no patience the recycling bin is full of empty green bomb cans..Bled the clutch master then went for the slave. Niagara falls! Thought I had a bad flare, redid it. Now Victoria falls. Took it all apart to find the brand new hose from hard line to slave looks like it was machined with an icepick where the double flare should go. Its in the truck flaps stop tomorrow. Bled the brake master. A few drips but tightened up the fittings and looks good. Need someone to work the pedal while I crack the bleeders. Oh put on the rear drums and preadjusted. I think its actually getting to the point of being reasonable to compose a list.

Started to squeeze the YORK OBA compressor in there. The bracketry is trickery, not a lot to connect to on that side, and belt clearance is tight too, but it will work. After OBA, i think ill work on the on board Jacuzzi or engine fired meat smoker...who doesn’t love brisket???

I removed the black Plasti-Dip on the front hub. Now for the other side. It's so hot out!

Drove it to the Home Depot. That's the longest trip it's made since all the upgrades. Works fantastic.

Started cleaning up the 3b. The floor is in pretty good shape. Most of the afternoon was spent removing bondo from the tub. I removed bubba's bench seat mounts and the heater.

I’ve been busy organizing my shop at the new house so not a lot of Jeep work but last night I managed to cut off the incoming Dana 20 shifter casting so it doesn’t interfere with the SM465. It appears the bracket I made for the Dana 18 shifters that bolts to the transmission will also work with the Dana 20. I also cut off a flange near the front output that held an exhaust bracket for the Scout this case was originally in. I think this weekend I will put the Dana 20 in along with the now-early-CJ-sized Dana 60.

There's a section of my '53 CJ-3B's passenger foot well that has rusted all the way through. There used to be a hat channel underneath the floor below the holes, but the supporting hat channel rusted away. I marked off an area to cut out and weld in new metal.

There was a big hole in the toolbox floor, too. I cut out the rusted sections.

I fashioned patches out of 16g steel and got ready to weld them in. My patch is larger than the original marked chalk lines. The rust extended further than I thought.

Round and round I went making small tack welds.

Ground it all sort of smooth.

    Finally, painted both patches.

    The toolbox.

I wanted to share but didn't want to make a new thread. The air filter on my 79 is well used up after a dusty 300 mile trip earlier this year. I wanted to buy a couple since they're cheap enough and see if Wix is still king. They are :)
Wix on the left, acdelco on the right. They were close to the same price even. They're closer in size than the picture looks.

Found the missing fenderwell seat cushions for my Tux. After searching for years I was able to buy a set that had been in storage all this time, new old stock.
These were bought back in '67 and never installed. Yes, they are still soft.
    Happy Happy!

I hooked my jeep to a trailer for the first time.
I was supposed to go fishing/ crabbing/ beach driving in Humboldt bay last weekend but the fire broke out.
Plan was for my Dad to haul the RV and Polaris ranger over while I tow the boat with jeep.
Over the last two months or so I put this little combination together: 12' gregor from California DWR, 6Hp mercury from craigslist, and Trailer from craigslist.
The boat/motor/trailer is sub 500lbs and the jeep tows it like its not even there. I actually the the jeep drives better while towing the trailer. Only issue so far is crosswinds, those tend to move us around a little.

I used to tow a little john boat, trailer combo with my jeep. They are great for backing down the boat ramp for 2 reasons. Short wheel base makes it easy to maneuver, and if you are launching by yourself you can just climb out the back of the jeep, walk across the tongue, climb in the boat and never get wet!

After seeing this picture I am missing my John boat. Dang.

Hope you have fun with it!

Made a fan shroud for the Jeepster/Commando.
A 24" x 18" piece of 18 gauge sheet metal and a little time bending and some welding. I am quite happy how it turned out.
