image.jpeg image.jpeg Got the locking hubs cleaned and greased. One side mounted up. When I popped the ring off there were a lot of needle bearings. So if you take yours apart, do over a table to catch them.

Not sure on Jeeps but I know some manufacturers added tapered shims to adjust pinion angel.

Judging from the picture it looks like a factory part due to the tab that sticks out preventing ubolts from walking.

I know on some cars you want pinion down, I would be tempted to reinstall. Can't tell for sure which way though

It does look possibly stock. The yoke is pretty much parallel to the ground without it. I guess I'll have to wait until I have transfer case back in. Thanks for the reply.

image.jpeg Today I decided to destroy my right rear drum. Staying with the 10" rear drums. I wanted to inspect a replace anything worn out. Drivers side came right off and needed a cylinder. Passenger side was a bear and I destroyed it. Put a puller on it after I sprayed multiple times with break free. Nothing, so I heated it and cranked down harder. It finally came off. Now it's a boat anchor. It looks good inside though!

There is a good possibility the drum was swedged to the hub. Basically once the drum is on and lug studs in, they flared the splined portion of the lug stud to lock the drum on. You may have to cut the swedge off and put new studs in to get a new drum on. Don't press the studs out without removing the swedge, it will enlarge the splined hole and ruin the hub.

Initially I thought that BesTop used a vinyl adhesive to install their windows but after doing some research found out that it is common practice to "weld" them in. Basically you just use some type of heat gun, and warm up the vinyl window and top material and it essentially melts together creating a glue like bond. Its pretty simple but I've been dealing with heat expansion of the window causing my patterns to not line up etc. And you have to be careful not to over heat the material or it will melt. And I was having problems when the clear vinyl would expand, it wanted to bunch up creating ripples. So just work it slowly and use some extra material for practice.

My rear axle pinion nut came loose and caused the oil seal to leak. The axle was put together by me a while back with a bunch of parts I had laying around. Including the used lock nut. Fortunately nothing got ruined but I wasted an hour or so straightening out the mess. New lock nut and 20 in/lb to turn pinion so we are good again.

The drivers side was easily removed, but the splined cuts on the drum look to have been eliminated by PO. It seems to stay on through the center. I think your correct about the studs being flared, plus all the rust holding the drum. I ordered a new drum and was thinking about eliminating the splines if needed on the drum. The center should hold them on. Would this be a bad idea? Thanks,Cole

You will need to enlarge the stud holes in the drum to clear the swedged splines. I think this is what you are suggesting. You are correct in that the drum is hub centric, plus once the wheel is on, you have 5 lug nuts torqued down holding it all in place, it isn't going anywhere. If you ever put new studs in though, cut the swedge off the studs/splines before pressing them out. Several posts on this if you search "swedge" I think.

Thanks for reply. I replaced the fronts with disk. The hubs were really bad from PO. The studs were welded in. I wondered why. Must have been the Swedge destroyed them and he salvaged with a stick welder. Explains a lot! Take care, Cole

Replaced the fuel pump after solving all the wrong problems like adjusting the float level, idle mixture screws, fuel filter. Then the light bulb came on in my head.:banghead:

Went garage saleing this morning and the clutch got spongy. Eventually wouldnt disengage all together and i limped it home. Found out the t-14 doesnt like to shift without the clutch. I figured it was a lincage issue and it was. The ball pivot bracket broke where it bolts on the frame. Easy fix. The jeep doesnt break very often but when it does its an easy fix. Most everything can be fixed with a few wrenches and a welder. No plastic or stupid modern over engineering to deal with. Got to love it

I spent the day today being lazy.

Fiddled around in the garage, worked on a firearm (1914 Savage 22 Pump, in it's own thread in off-topic) and I squirted some 2k High build on the hood and fenders this evening.

Had to do a bit of sanding first, then wiped with acetone, then sanded a little more, then a quick wipe and some air, and squirted primer...

this was 20oz of primer for these three pieces. Will do the grill and the tub tomorrow afternoon I hope (after taking care of a client's needs).
