You ought to add a second quart for bar oil that doubles as jeep motor oil...

I wonder if 1 QT aluminum fuel bottles can still be found for backpacking or such that don't require some effing CARB compliant cap / spigot. I think MSR used to make good ones like this here. Of course, you want a different color for fuel vs your oil bottles.

This one is a nice limey green. And this one a nice blaze orange.

    That's exactly what I use!
And I pack bar oil in the little 2-gal premix oil containers. The ratio of gas:bar oil works out perfectly. I get about three refills out of this setup, since the saw uses less bar oil than gas.

And as a tip, those 20 oz MSR bottles fit in a bicycle's wire-style water bottle holder (the kind that bolts to the bike's downtube). Maybe you could screw one to your firewall? I used to have two of them mounted on my dirt bike's forks, and I used a hose clamp to keep them secure.

Saw mount is complete and installed. Just waiting on the MSR fuel bottle to arrive.
The rubber edge trim is from Mcmaster Carr, I had to use some trim adhesive to get it to stay exactly where I wanted it.
I took the jeep for a test drive. No new noticeable squeaks or rattles. I forgot to paint the grill support rod while I had it apart. :banghead:

I have been enjoying your build thread and thought I'd mention that.

The saw mount looks great and functional. I may do something similar in our build, although I may need a little larger saw. I always keep a saw in my present daily but fitting one in a CJ takes some thinking. Your approach should work slick.

I finally got the MSR fuel bottle and cage mounted. I don't think that the bottle could bounce out on its own, but the hook and loop straps cinch it down nice.
    Project complete.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty excited to have one less thing bouncing around in the back of the jeep.
My next project is a D30 up front with an ARB. I am planning on installing the compressor in the right rear fender well behind the factory spare tire fender support. There will be some kind of an access door to prevent mud from caking on the compressor.

The first piece of this winters project has landed. No more transfer case noise eating away at my brain for hours on end .
Both D30 and Centered 44 with ARB's should be assembled in the next few weeks.

I always liked the clean look of my jeep without a winch on the front. For this reason I installed the front hitch receiver and put the winch on a receiver mount. Thinking this would be simple, I'll only have to pack a winch around whenever I think I'll need it.
Well I didn't think Id need it last fall on and ended up nearly loosing my jeep off a steep shale hillside. Even in 4wd I couldn't get going and every time I attempted to move, the jeep shifted ever closer to the hillside. The hill was so steep and loose that I quickly found myself sliding sideways with all 4 tires locked up. Trees were everywhere, so all I needed to do was have my wife jump out and run the winch line to a tree, but of course I had left my winch at home. :banghead: After an awkward bit of shimmying around, we got my wife into the drivers seat with both feet on the brake pedal. From there I spent the next 2 hours swearing/ winching with my highlift jack . At one point the strap slipped off the lifting foot and we went sliding back to square one. Of course all of this went on at 5:30 am.
This experience motivated me to make my winch more permanently mounted.

Winch: Don't leave home without it!

That and a snatch block or two......gloves , some 3/8 " proof chain with hooks, 20-30 ft of cable with hooks on both ends , several clevis's , a tree strap and I also carried a small fold flat anchor , that is great to use in sand or mud and even getting a grip around rocks.

Ironically I had almost everything you mentioned above. 2 Snatch blocks, 3 shackles, (3) 30' recovery straps and gloves. Just left the winch at home....... I'll be better prepared next time... I felt like a deal dumb..... stuck with my $800 winch at home.

I made this little guy yesterday for winching with my hightlift jack. Should be much safer than winching with the loops directly on the lift foot.
2x4 1/4" wall box tube. Cut the end out and pinched/welded it together. 3/4" hole for the shackle and of course a safety pin.
