Next I’m trying to make some fuel tank hold-down straps. First one I cut by hand with shears. Next one used a cutoff wheel on a grinder. They both bowed pretty bad , the hand cut one is worse.

I know there are power cutters but I don’t think I would use them that much after this CJ is done.

How would y’all cut 18ga 1” wide strip? Should I use 2 straps or is one enough?

I used 16ga and scratch made the tubular turnbuckle luckily I already had the Left hand tap and die from an earlier project.

Do you want some Stainless steel strap, I have a roll of it, will cut some for you, let me know how long you need. It's only 3/4" wide, but it's not going to rust. I think it is for warping insulation on pipes, it is soft and easy to work with.

That is really nice. Don’t most straps go front to rear? I think the P.O. had front to rear.

Hammer it (flatways) on the shorter side, against an anvil. That will stretch the metal and straighten it.

To answer the question, I wouldn't. I'd find some 1" stock.

Could be on a CJ-5 my Jeep is a CJ-2A body so side to side is stock. I used the Original Cleats welded to the Tunnel and Side wall for the anchor points. I could crush the tank and pull the side wall of the tub in with this set up if I was so inclined.
