Maybe a dumb question. Is the vacuum produced by the pump used for the wipers? Could it be used to actuate a power assisted brake? I am trying to decide whether to go with rotor/drums combo and regular dual MC or add a power assisted brake. Any ideas, suggestions, experiences...

Yes, the vacuum pump assists the engine manifold vacuum in operating the wipers.

Vacuum-over-hydraulic assisted brake boosters were an original accessory, there is one fitted to my '49 Willys pickup. It is a remote unit, no change to the OEM single master.

Can you please, get me some part numbers for that kit, and will it fit a 62 CJ5? I am debating between changing it all to hanging pedals/ rotor-drum combo and go with a bigger master cylinder or keeping the original pedals, bigger dual reservoir master and power booster. When you say "Yes, the vacuum pump assists the engine manifold vacuum in operating the wipers." you mean is used in conjunction with a vacuum source taken from the intake manifold? Thanks!

    Yes, they are tee'd together.

No idea on a kit number but I'll look next chance I get. FYI - mine is an old, old, installation. Pretty sure it would fit any vehicle, since it is remotely mounted on the inner fender.

I googled vacuum boosters one time and found a lot of historic info.

Here is the Bendix brake booster unit found in my "new" '49 Willys-Overland pickup. The adjacent vacuum tank is part of the system, all mounted on the inner right fender.
