I would just reuse the factory head bolts. Nothing in the TSM about not reusing the bolts.

On a side note while I wait, will my cj5 stock drums pull safely and brake safely with a trailer weighing under 500# loaded?

Started painting all the covers and such and am working on the exhaust manifolds. I took all the AIR injection tube things out and want to block the threaded holes. I got some short bolts to thread in the manifolds. What in any sealant should i put on the threads? And I broke a manifold stud so I guess i will be drilling that out hopefully. Thanks

Your local machine shop will make quick work of that broken stud. Easy if the head is off. If you have trouble with it, don't mangle it - just take it in.

No sealant on the air injection bolts. They have a copper washer, which you can put under the bolt and get a good seal. Jeep PN 44042. Pretty sure it's just a generic copper washer.

Hey everyone, finally got the motor back today and time to install. I already installed the crank and RMS and everything turns freely. Now onto the piston install I still need to measure ring gap but that I can do easy enough. The real question is which way do the rings go(facing up or down) There are 4 rings to compression and 2 for oil control(one skinny one zig zag) They came in separate things. 1st sompression, 2nd compression, and oil ones. Are they talking top to bottom or bottom to top of piston? Any clues?

Ok I just checked the ring that says (top) which on the bag says 1st compression ring has a bevel on the inside top. I'm guessing this ring is the highest up.

The other bag which says 2nd compression ring has no marking but has a square area cut out along the outside edge _---- like so depending on which way you are holding it.

The diagram that came with the rings shows the sqaure bevel part down on the second ring.

Right. My Dauntless was like that bevel on top up and second ring bevel was down. I had top designating dots on both rings of mine as well.
