Drive Train Position

    Wasn't paying attention to trans T86.
    Don't know.....I've seen a lot of thoses spacers though.....

    Thanks guys and or gals, my original service man. shows 3 fabrica spacers on each side of the cross member, and that is how many mine has.
    I will check front and rear cross members as well.
    Is it possible that I have a different cross member?

    On a different subject, my jeep runs at 185 deg. in summer, so I went to the local Auto Zone and they only listed the 180 deg. thermostat.
    I am not running a radiator shroud, but plan to shortly. Also have not had the radiator boiled or checked yet. I really don't like it to run that hot and standing in traffic it gets hotter,never overheated though! What are your thoughts on how hot it's running.

    185 is nothing. I've had mine well over 200 on a hard climb on a hot day.

    I wish mine would stay under 190.

    On my cross-country recovery mission, mine ran between 205-215 for around 80 hours straight. It never boiled over, but it took some creative driving to keep it happy.

    Vince back again. I checked the rear and front cross member and just to be technical, the rear cross member is sticking out 1/4 " past the body. I don't know if that little bit warrants the movement of the body though. The front has one bolt through the body and what looks like a washer/shim that has an elongated hole in it that is not centered on the bolt, If it's a washer no harm, no foul.
    I still haven't found anything that tells me If I can remove a cross member shim or two to bring the whole drive train assembly up on a better angle or not. I suppose I'll need to check all my clearances first. I hope It doesn't affect the drive shaft engagement if I move it up.

    You can remove rear engine support crossmember spacers IF the transmission maintains sufficient clearance to the body tub.
    Also make sure the bellhousing Left upper rib does not get too close to sheet metal when raising the drivetrain.

    It is not uncommon to see mildly dented left rear Dauntless valve covers.
    The V6 engine is rather close to the firewall at that point because the firewall notch was designed for a different engine.

    FWIW as Tim mentioned the body and rear crossmember should be pretty much aligned. If your crossmember is noticeably protruding (even 1/4 inch would be noticeable) it could be worthwhile to consider moving the body back as long as it doesn't affect anything else, which if all stock it shouldn't.

    Thanks all for your input. I did some deeper inspection on the bell housing rib in the upper left hand section, and there is only 1/16" clearance available so no shims can be removed to move the cross member upwards, That being said I was wrong about the composition of those shims, they are metal, and there are 4 on each side between the frame and cross member.
    Moving the body rearwards that 1/4" may give me enough room for the valve cover, but certainly not enough to center the trans shifter in the tunnel hole.
    More huntin and peckin until I straighten this jeep out.

    Is the frame square? A plumb bob dropped at the spring hangers will give you a good place to x measure to check.
