Ok so I freely admit that the leaking of my 66 is almost like death and taxes but wanted to get some perspective on the manner. I started the jeep - always starts right up. Ran and drove for about 20 minutes. Then parked and waited about 3-4 hours before taking this pic. Maybe just a few more drips but this is about it. So... should I consider myself lucky to have such a small leak OR do I spend millions of dollars and sacrifice thousands of lives just to stop this leak. The shop replaced the RMS last fall. I'm assuming you are talking about the engine? So, how often do you drive it? If you can manage the leak as far as keeping up with the oil level then I would say don't worry about it at this point.

I agree with glen . if it's the engine some of my past vehicles would mark the driveway every day . more that that . my shovelhead still does . neighbor couldn't believe I would park it on a new driveway . hey it's marking it spot . that's what they do

Hey Glenn. I drive it at least once a week year round along with plowing snow when necessary. Plus occasional local trips in the summer. I rarely ever push past 40mpgs. Yes. It is leaking at the 'classic' bell housing. its a F134. I know back in the day that folks cared much less about any oil leaks. But I am curious - did these things leak 3 years after driving off the lot?

I love this little PITA haha. I am happy: scrapping, painting, looking for parts, fixing simple items, etc. but I want to pick my fights wisely. I appreciate all the responses and am happy to commiserate!

I've also wondered about when they would actually start leaking, I certainly don't know.

I might leave dixie cups under the drips and put them all back in at the end of the week! I might put up some photos because if I am lucky at all its coming from the pan... I placed a paper towel up against the flat front of the bellhousing and the oil was not leaking down that face.
Drips are forming at several of the rear bolt heads of the pan. Where do I look on the outside to confirm the difference from a pan leak or a seal leak? Thank you!!!

I would not worry about that leak. If it gets to the point you have to keep adding oil, then fix it.

When it stops leaking it's a problem

I've given up on all but the most serious oil leaks...

Thanks for the reply. rejeep - I think I know exactly what you mean. I am getting oil drops pooling on 5-7 bolt heads on the rear of the pan. Does that sound like a familiar symptom of the issue? Pan was replaced by a reputable shop recently. Looks like they used dark grey Permatex or sim.

Have you tried to tighten any of the bolts? I don't mean real tight, just lightly pull on a wrench to see if they move easily. You could save the oil just to see how much it actually is leaking but don't put it back in the engine.

Good idea. I will give the bolts a slight twist. I know that going crazy tight could be bad so I will use the torch wrench. I won't put it back in but it might b interesting to collect and measure. Thanks again!

X2, mine leaks from the engine also. I changed the valve cover gaskets and oil pan gasket, still leaks. Not enough to worry about though. I check the oil every time before I drive it.

thanks for the post jzeber. I might post a new pic this weekend of the collected oil and maybe you guys can tell me how serious it is. Still sorta new to these jeeps so being able to compare with other peoples experience would help keep me off the ledge. Thanks again everyone.

Mine drips from the back of the oil pan a bit as well. I don't think it's bad enough to worry about yet.
