Same here. My title says it's a '67. According to the VIN it's a '68 V6, made in Canada. In reality, it's a F-Head, six volt system, so the real year is probably earlier. I think my tub was replaced at one point, and that's where the SN came from.

Yeah, mine is a F head also, The PO said it was 6 volts, I thought it was 6 volts also, until I traced the Generator serial #'s and discovered it was a 12 volt system. Some times the internet is useful.

I have used the vin decoder and that's what it came up with but I'll go through it again. And confirm it, thank you!

I am having a hard time decoding the actual year of the jeep.. Ive been cruising through some decoding pages and it is apparently a universal cj5, open body, universal smog, right hand drive, and has the F4.. Where do I find the year? VIN is 8305 S 241953. Thanks.

I have found a pdf file, that doesn't have the year of 68.. but based on the previous numbers made per year I would say Im around late 68 to early 69

Howdy, from your pictures your body is repairable. One other very good source of repair panels and hat channels (the supports under the floor) is midwest military. M38a1 and early CJ-5s share a lot of parts and the rust damaged panels under the doors are available through John and having just replaced the right floor, hat channels and the panel under the door the panels are some of the best Ive seen. One advantage of replacing the floor, hat channels and the body side is it saves cutting out about a jillion spot welds. Good luck with it and have fun doing it!

Alright, I'm gonna see about repairing instead of replacing! Thanks to all of you. The progress has been reduced to a snail pace.. Between work, the farm, and trying to get some extra schooling in I have got zero time. But I have managed to get the engine and trans out since I last posted. Cylinders look fine, however with timing chain off, I cannot spin the crank over by hand. So I am hoping that when I start the tear down of thew engine I don't find a damaged crank. But that's pretty much where I sit, I've been working on getting the brake lines and axles off so I can send it out to be blasted. So That is all I've got for now!

Personally, I'd ditch that tub and look for something else, maybe in an area like Cali or Arizona, where the body cancer is less prevalent. My $1,000 CJ was 98% rust free and the tub was almost perfect. Granted, I got very lucky.

Well I had to put the Jeep on the back burner sadly as other things have had to take precedence but over the course of almost two years I’ve gotten to here..

I got the engine and trans out, engine requires a rebuild, heads off you can hardly turn it over by hand and it creaks and groans (like a 51 year old would) also the outputs on the transfer case are loose as a goose. Starting to figure out what I’m gonna do with my steering. Once I get some steel to start mocking it all up I can get front axle and springs off and have it sent out for blasting and painting. Hopefully there aren’t too many more delays in Progess like this.
