Most folks will use the later wheel studs when putting the 11" brakes on. This means the drum will be on the outside of the hub and the two are not swagged together. I for one would never swage them back together.

I have the cutter and have used a 1/2 drill.
You can do it on the floor of the garage; just have to make sure that the cutter is hitting true and straight all the way around the area to be cut. If on a bench, clamp the unit down in case the cutter edge catches and tries to turn the whole assembly.
A drill press/clamping makes the job easier.

You can see the swage in that pic. They are only on the older hubs- mostly MB/GPW and Cj2A. Maybe they are found on some other flatties too. My '54 A1 didn't have them.

I have a set of hubs off a 2A I am going to use on a full floater. I cut the swages with a hole saw, which has to be just a hair bigger than the lug bolt. Did it on a drill press. It worked but is pretty hard on the saw. The other hub, I cut off the lug bolts, drilled a release hole into the bolt and drove out the bolt pretty easily. The second way is better since you won't be re-using the lug bolts anyhow.

I have only seen swedged studs on 10" drums and the drums on those are on the outside of the hub. That by no means doesn't mean they aren't swedged on D41's or early D44s with 9" brakes either. I may have just never encountered them.

I tried pressing out the studs on my old 9" hubs from my 46 2a. Damn near broke my 20 ton press. They came out but it sure wasnt easy. And I couldnt see any major swadge on them. I didnt end up using any of the parts again so i dont know if they became wallowed out.

I learn something every time I get on this site. I put 66 3:73 10" brake axles on my TP. The PO of the donor Jeep must have changed the drums to the outside of the hub as my studs went through the hub then the drum. I had a spinning stud and had to weld it to the hub, my question is how and why is mine different than the video shows? All the brakes and cylinders were already done when I bought the donor Jeep, so I don't know why they are different than what I saw in the video.

I guess I got lucky because none of mine were swaged. I just used the BFH and support behind the studs and drove them out.

I used a large socket around the stud base.

Over the years about 40% of the rigs I worked on were swaged... When I started. We always converted them if we did any drum work so we didn't have to pull the hub to do brakes.

It's actually getting pretty rare to find a running maintained Jeep that hasn't been changed.

So a change means simply putting the drum on the outside? Or is there more to it?

I was wondering the same thing Mickey. I had a spinning stud on my rear axel, had to cut the top off the lug nut, chrome acorn mag lug nut, and pull the wheel off. I then pulled the hub off, welded the loose stud and used a pipe wrench to get the shank off the stud. Put it all back together everything worked out fine. Mickey, Amazon has a hub puller for a good price, around $40.00 I think, it is heavy duty and works well.
