If you want a permanent solution, clear-coating won't quite cut it. If you like the bare-metal look of some of the parts, ECS makes a product called rust prevention magic that you melt onto the metal with a heat gun. I used it on a bare-metal motorcycle 5 years ago and not a spot of rust.

So I had this can of turtle wax chrome polish and rust remover I wanted to try out on a little bit of rust on these headlight bezels. You can see they look kind of cloudy and a mess. After scrubbing and buffing and polishing, it didn't do Jack!

So little bit frustrated I spilled my diet coke and remembered I had heard of using diet coke and aluminium foil to rub out rust and clean up chrome.

Well I'm no scientist and can't explain what happened but I had them polished up in less than 1 minute each. Pretty cool I thought and now I can save my change and buy more diet coke. Win win. I was pretty skeptical until I tried it. Cool.

Also worked on painting up the transmission mount and drive shafts. I need some new u joints but all I could find in the FSM I have is Spicer and Cardan type. Don't have any idea what the current part number is. I think it is 5-135x but I'm not sure. Anyone know for sure?
[IMG] [IMG] is there a trick to getting the rest of the mount out or just slow cutting?

[IMG] clutch looks rusty but I don't know if that matters since it appears to all be coloration rust. Missing one bolt on the top fork(?) Didn't find it in the bell housing. Need to track one down.

[IMG] Need to find a disassembly guide. The gears and stuff looks OK but the help got a little excited and took it apart without really knowing what they were doing. I said "the help" right? Lol.

Coke has phosphoric acid in it. I bet that is what cut off the ugly

The rollers fell into your transmission case. Get small parts rebuild kit and go for it. The T-90 was the first transmission I put back together and all you need is a service manual. Take pics when you pull it the rest of the way apart. Use transmission assembly lube when putting it back together. That stuff is the best.

Carbonic acid can work well to remove oxidization from fragile or old finishes finishes. Plain soda water works better than soda because it doesn't risk leaving a sticky finish or discoloring the material.

There isn't enough concentration of phosphoric acid in soda to do much. You can buy it though, called naval jelly... works great for rust removal.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] jumped into the transmission today. Came apart once I figure out how to get the lower shaft out. I was fortunate that everything looked well taken care if so I spent time cleaning and degreasing everything to prepare for reassembly. No cracks or broken teeth anywhere and everything fit snugly that should. Primed it for paint tomorrow. Cleaning the old crush off was by farther most time consuming part.

In this photo on the top left the is a part I was unable to find in my FSM. It has two holes in it and welded to a piece that seems to wrap around the lower shaft gear and the at the top sits behind the upper gear. Sorry I don't know the names of all the gears yet. I think it might be an oil pickup is some sort for keeping this lubricated. Any ideas? It seemed kind of scratched up and the top portion didn't look very straight so I'm not sure how that happened because everything else looks great.

Thats the oll slinger. It has 2 allen bolts that go through the front of the case to affix it around the countershaft. You need to take those allen bolts out to get the countershaft out.
