What Did You Do To Your Jeep Today?

From my experience, dana 44 for cj, stay away from the scout dana 44, external lock prone to break and zero caster issue. Find a 73-76 dana 44 from a jeep wagonneer or J Truck and from that you can just bought hub and disq from a ford f150 1985 to keep the 5x5.5 bolt patern.

 

Welded up a crack on one of my front fenders. Need to get a little Bondo on it now.

 

Replaced the rear seal and front gasket on the Dana 27. Flushed it after only ~1,000 miles due to water in it when I first opened it. She was leaking, so hopefully now she won't leak (much). At least not from the Dana 27...

Was also able to get that breather properly cleaned.

Now I just need to find a lift so I can get my torque wrench on the new yoke bolt. Just not enough room to move it more than a few inches.

 

Removed the previous owner's attempts at low back seats... from a golf cart or similar:



Now we have some 70's high backs! Craigslist score for $60..



Found out another clever modification, he elevated/leveled the passenger seat by taking a 3in piece of 1/2in PVC with a 1/2 PVC cap and slid it into the passenger seat frame tubes. Redneck ingenuity. You can see the white PVC cap on the bottom of the passenger frame. I can take a better picture if anyone wants a clearer idea of what he did; circled part is where the pvc is inserted and the white cap in the picture is the pvc cap.. Also, I can still access the under seat tool box with the just fine with the seat tiled forward, I was pleased to discover that!

 

Got the new tires put on today. The old tires were from 1974! and pretty hard. Went with a Toyo M-55 snow tire to keep the tread pattern similar to the Sears snow tires on the jeep.

 

I rewired the trailer in prep for the new axle. New LED tail lights and a 7 pin pigtail. the tail was 6' long with 7 pretty colored wires that didn't mean a thing, the only wire that were color correct was white = GND and Blue = Electric brakes, nothing else was correct
Green = Tail lights
Brown = right turn
Red = Left turn

I didn't bother finding where yellow and black went.
Of course I had everything wired soldered heat shrunk with silicone. before I found out nothing worked correctly

Back at the in-laws working on the CJ3a. Put some 4* shims in the front end. Thought it would take a couple hours, but ubolts were frozen. So, I had to cut them off and drive to town for some new ones. I took the brake and clutch pedals out and cut them down. I flattened them out and put some newer covers on. I wanted to make room for the gas pedal. I know previously guys have hated on these gas pedals, but I'm hoping it will be usable.

 

Also worked on the linkage, to the carb. Got my drive shafts back

This post is a good idea, Mr Focker of Tri-cities.

This morning, I went to the village to buy bread, a baguette and a 1/2 loaf, 2 croissants and 2 cakes for the lunch, we are sunday.
I try to use my Jeep as much as I can when it is nice weather, it so marvellous to drive in the air, no doors, I jsut keep the small canvas top because of the wind.

I have put my basket with the bread outside so you can see that I don't lie.
Lot of people are a little bit jalous, or thinking 'this old guy is crazy", I see in their eyes, but others are happy and say hello.
I don't do this to 'show-of' but because I like it, I can do it, I am not a great mechanic guy but I can manage, and I can pay the local shop.
This Jeep is cheaper than quads and other vehicles where you must wear a helmet, etc...
With my CJ5, I can drive windshield down in trails along the fields, not fast of course, but I am retired, I am not in a hurry.





I need air because yesterday I replaced a beem in my barn, in a dusty place with difficult access, I was obliged to crawl... after crawling under the Jeep to replace the ujoint! I like to mix physical activity (I cannot no more practice sport, or not like a young man) with intellectual, I still develop small websites and I find this very funny, I created a process to make small multilanguage website. Good for the mind.
And I take a special care to have success in what I do, this is the lesson of age.
Just do once, but well.

 

Thanks in return, I prepare the barn to receive tourists, this place of 2m by 1, height 1m will be good, I'll charge 50$ a night!
You know how in France we are greedy exploiting tourism.
But that's nothing comapring with Italy or Thailand, when the fight is more intense.

Frankly speaking, I manage this place to receive my children with dignity, they are with girlfriends so they need a small flat.
And maybe one day Jeep epople can stop here - I launch some heavy repairs on tuesday, the big Caterpillar will come, etc...

Because we decided to live here some years before being too old. Vast subject. Afterwards???

Well, it is a nice big church.

Ok, there is some east-Europa look in the central part.
The church in my village was built around 1180, roman style.
Then an other part was built afterwards, XIIIth, gothic style. Then, in XV century, the tower was built in Renaissance style.
We have 2 churches in our groupe of village, the other one was also built before the end of XIIth century, but styed in roman style.

 

Got my u joints in my axle shafts. Slid the long side in and bolted up the prepared spindle and 11" backing plate. Then hung the brake parts on it.

Next, clean up the right side backing plate and get that side together. Then the hubs, then the......and then...... and maybe drive it before it snows.

I HATE doing u joints. Wife had to help hold stuff. Then messing with the retainer clips, finding ones that fit and aren't too thick like the new ones all seemed to be. I can't wait till this over.

Can someone remind me where this little horse shoe clip goes? Something to do with the rubber hose I think but, really don't remember. Thanks
