Hood To Windshield Latch Location For Vented Windshield

I just mounted up my vented windshield and noticed the hood latch for the windshield doesn't line up correctly with the vented windshield. Were the hoods for the vented windshield drilled differently? Has anyone here come up with a cleaver way to make them line up or other options. My hood is freshly painted and I don't really want to drill and weld up holes.

Thoughts and solutions welcome

 

I'm assuming you are taliking about the spring hook that holds the hood in the open position.

This safety latch can be mounted either way (up or down). In one orientation it will engage automatically, in the other it requires manual manipulation.

Could this involved in your situation?

 

The hook orientation doesn't matter for my issue. It's to low to meet the latch on the hood when you rest the hood against the windshield. Can someone with a vented windshield chime in?

 

I bought a venting windshield years ago and know exactly the issue you are talking about. I was thinking about fabricating a longer hoop then bending it back towards the windshield to where it would engage the latch and yet maintain the proper distance off the hood. I too would rather not drill the hood for another hoop.

 

I have a venting windshield and I had to move my hook on the hood. I didn't weld up the old holes i just installed old screws to also fill those and left it so I can easily switch back if I wanted

 

one loop is for when the windshield is in the tie down position, and one loop for when the hood is up, right?

 

Yup the tall loop is for hood up

 

That looks great. My guess is that that is probably how it would have been dealt with originally.

 

Shoot... that's a bummer. I guess it doesn't matter that much but had I known before I painted my hood I might have moved the loop.

 

FWIW - Personally, in 50 years I have never once felt the need to latch the hood in the open position.

 

I dont have a loop or latch. Just the same day i had my jeep painted, i opened the hood. It hit the windshield frame. And every time i look at that paint gouge it makes me wish i had a loop for safely opening it.

 

I have. I've had the wind catch the hood and slam it closed.

 

Ouch.

 

So what year would a vented windshield be found ? I would love to find one that would work with my 66 and Meyer hard top

 

Check with Pete DeBella Jeep parts. His Jeep supply likely still has new old stock ones offered. I think the swing out frames were $800 or more the last time I checked.
Otherwise, good luck, though they do surface every now and then.
