I've got a Grant classic 3 spoke 13.5" steering wheel on the way from Summit Racing... to replace the gigantic OEM wheel on my '73. Will let you know how it fits, this would be a cheaper/modern looking alternative than going OEM for those not interested in keeping things factory looking.

Moved to it's own thread- please do not hijack threads as it confuses the answers to the original & makes it hard to do searches later on.

Do you have power steering? If not going to a smaller wheel may be counter-productive- there's a reason they made those steering wheels that big & fashion ain't it. :D

I love the bus wheel. Wish all my cars had them.

When I got mine it had a grant with manual steering. That was corrected straight away. If I do PS I may go with smaller wheel to hub more room. But I do like the big wheel too.

I know, the bus wheel works nice, but it's soooo big and it kind of hinders me from getting in and out easily. So, I had to try something different. Mine was in pretty bad shape anyway... this new one looks like a nice hot rod steering wheel, is in flat black, which matches my jeep interior/exterior. If it turns out to be too hard to handle with the smaller wheel, I'll pull it off and go back to a new bus wheel. I do like to piddle around with things too much.

Manual steering on a CJ is even more turns lock-to-lock than the GM-luxoboat power steering that came as factory equipment. You need that extra leverage, especially if you have larger (ie modern) tires.

One advantage of the bus wheel is that the hub works with the cancel wheel on the factory Sparton turn signal switch. When you use your indicators, having self-cancel makes driving easier. If I wanted a smaller wheel, I would look into one of the slender hot rod columns that include a turn signal switch.

Ok, I'll admit it... you guys were right (as usual). I mounted my Grant 13.5" aftermarket steering wheel and I absolutely do not like it. It's not for me. The dish shape makes it ride closer to me than I like. To me, turning isn't that much more difficult, but it just feels like I've got too much vehicle and not enough wheel. Live and learn. Now I've got to get me an OEM one.

I bought a Joes Racing 15" flat (no dish) aluminum wheel to use on my 48 2A which will have a Saginaw 525 6.25 turn manual box and all new steering column etc. The one I got has a PVC covering over the aluminum and fits a Grant wheel adapter. I'll be using mine with an Ididit classic column (the one that looks almost like a stock Jeep column) which requires no adapter.

I can't imagine hwy speeds in an 81" WB Jeep and Power 3 turn steering (my 2A is on a 57 CJ5 frame so the 1" longer WB then stock) That would be a little more attention to detail then I would enjoy.

The 525 Manual box is the same one used on late 60's Camaros and Chevelles quite a nice box to drive with.
