    More from the FWIW Dept.

I found these photos of what appears to be another U S Navy DJ. It appears to be LHD, has tow hooks and the headlight guards. The bull nose and lack of cutouts in the body for the rear tires leads me to believe it is an early 6 cylinder DJ5B. No location available on this DJ.

Dj jeeps are awesome! You get a very nice storage shed with 3 doors so you can store your "treasure" great yard art and plenty of good parts when you need. If I had the space I would accumulate as many as possible.1975 AM General mail Jeep military imitation.

I am working on a new data plate. Interesting that the original dataplate does not say AM General like the VIN tag does.

This is what I made up as a sample. Not exactly perfect but will work for me.

This is the auxiliary data plate that has mechanical data but it is in worse shape than the NOMENCLATURE plate. Unless I find another sample I probably cannot reproduce it.

I commented earlier that I would write up something on the Black Mountain seats I purchased. Having a gray jeep I decided on gray seats. I picked them up at Collins Brother's Jeep in Wylie. The seats are basic plain Jane, non-reclining seats that are working out well. The seat frame came pre -threaded for mounting on 76 and up seat brackets. The threaded holes were slightly off for the standard DJ seat mount . I used self tapping screws to mount the driver seat tracks to the seat frame and then the whole assembly to the mounting bracket. The driver's side was easy. The passenger side was a little more difficult. Once I mounted the tilt frame to the seat I thought I was on easy street. The problem that arose is that it sort of tweaked the seat frame. Remounting it to the factory holes took some persuasion but I got it done.

The fabric is vinyl and time will tell how much abuse it will take. It has a texture to the vinyl that feels similar to the shark skin seat covers i have seen. Overall I am satisfied with the product.

Today I was showing my grandson what a pop rivet tool and rivets were. We mounted the original data plates back on the dash and added the reproduction decal of the data plate. He didn't really get the concept of the data plate but he sure liked counting down the "squeezes" until the tool popped.

I've always liked the old DJ series jeeps. I personally want a DJ3A. The last one I looked at was to rough and the seller wanted more than it was worth. I have heard there were DJ6 jeeps available

About two years ago I bought a rebuilt carburetor. The Jeep was hesitating during acceleration and the PO had removed the automatic choke housing to install a manual choke that didn’t work.

The rebuilt carb really didn’t help much. My wife suggested that I take it out of the box and install it.

So today I did just that. As part of the process I discovered the PO had removed the heat tube that operates the automatic choke. :steamed:

The installation went without a hitch. I removed the manual choke cable and also reconnected the oil pressure sending unit which was off.

Took it for a drive and it runs pretty good. It was an enjoyable last drive as I delivered it to the new owner. Hated to see it go :( but it had barely moved in about a year.

The new owner plans to convert it to RHD and deliver mail with it. It certainly is a good candidate with only 57,XXX miles on it and most all the gremlins worked out. Now it is his so he can have his fun with it.

This unit was indeed converted to RHD and used on a mail route. While delivering mail it was rear ended and was not repairable. It went to the scrap yard. We have been unable to locate it.

The guy I sold it to wanted the whole thing for parts. He was unable to buy it from the insurance company for some reason. There were quite a few parts that were still serviceable.
