    Hello,

    I have a 74 cj5 with a 3.73 d44 Limited slip rear.
The spider gears broke and I'm having trouble finding the correct parts to order.

Does anyone know the part # for the spider gears?

A 3.73 30-spline D44 TracLock is not a widely sought unit. You should be able to find a used one complete if you want to keep it. They are known to be not very strong (spider gears and cases break - BTDT), and the clutches wear out comparatively quickly.

If you really want just the gears, try Randy's RANDYS Worldwide | Differentials, Rear End Gears, Axles, Lockers

Thanks for the reply & advice, I'm going to replace the spider gears to get it back on the road for now. I didn't know the traclock was a weak unit. I'm going to look for a stronger replacement later on or maybe even replace it with an open carrier.

Thanks for the reply & offer. I've been searching but haven't been able to find out if the carrier and spider gears are the same for 3.73 & 3.07 gears but It's worth a shot. I'll send you a pm. Thanks again

I think dana 44 carrier break should be 3.73 and down 30 spline should work

Just out of curiousity, instead of buying spider gears, could you be a lunchbox locker such as Aussie or Lockrite rather than spider gears? These types of lockers are usually quite inexpensive and durable and replace the spider and side gears, but I'm not sure if they'd fit into a carrier that was originally designed as a limited slip.

The only one I'm aware of that will work in a Trac-Loc case, if still available, is the Powertrax Locker. It's not a Lock-rite but a clutch style locker. All the others require an open case.
And the part the side gears and pinion (spider) gears fit in is a CASE, NOT a carrier.

My apologies for screwing up any nomenclature which I know adds confusion. I certainly hope that everyone knew what I meant. Just to add to the confusion, many people also call them carrier cases as in the following 4 Wheel Parts advertisement. Dana 44 Open Differential Carrier Case

No problem. It's a common terminology issue that even so-called professionals perpetuate. I will not give up educating people on this though :)
