Oddball T-98?

Does anyone in here have a T-98 with the same stamp as the one on my T-98?




I can't even find the simplest of parts for this transmission. I have tried to find a boot for it, but apparently the original is not available. I ordered the boot for a T-90, but as I said in an earlier post, after a couple of shifts from 1st to 2nd, the boot ripped because the throw on the shifter is so long. I keep getting the old, "Sorry I can't help you", line.

Timgr gave me link to a big rig shifter boot supplier. I ordered one from them, but it didn't work out either. Thought it would be worth a shot.

When I was inspecting the tranny and replacing leaking gaskets, I noticed that a small pin, used in the shifter pivot linkage was worn and wanted to replace it, but could not find anyone who could identify what I was talking about, even with pictures.

So if any of you have this tranny or know of a supplier who can help me, I would appreciate the info.

Thanks for the information!!! I looked at this boot in other websites and wondered if it would work. I will give it a shot. That pin was so worn, I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be formed a certain way, or if it was just a dowel. I can make that pin myself quite easily. Any other tips for me that I can use? The shifter pivot is the same for the T-98 and T-18/T-19. They are a hardened steel pin so you want to get the correct pin or use something appropriate so the pin doesn't wear, or shear and fall into the transmission. The notch in the shifter ball and the hole the pin fits in also are common wear points on T-98's and T-18/T-19's. R&P used to stock the pin, spring, cap, etc. so could be a good source. I've heard of people grinding a T-90 pocket needle bearing down to length so they have a hardened pin also.

 

I would think a Ford truck parts supplier would have a replacement boot. Is it Jeffs Bronco graveyard or something like that. A boot for a NP435 might work. Even a Chevy truck boot.

Thanks. I was hoping for an original boot, but that is not to be found. So aftermarket it will be. Probably better than the original anyway. I seem to remember that the boots in my Dad's old jeeps were always torn. The bellows type will probably last longer. Have a good day...

I have had good luck with Novak for my t98 hard parts. Have been looking at making a leather boot or using a t18 boot or as others suggested, look at the other granny trans boots.
