Nothing to restore here, just get it running and enjoy. It looks like a jeep from a time capsule!

Agree! Very nice. No, I mean, what a piece of junk! Don't waste your time. I can be there this afternoon with a trailer to take it off your hands.

Darn, I was gonna convince him of that through a pm. Since it will take me longer to get there I didn't want to spill the beans. ;)

:) And we wouldn't do that with just any Jeep, it has to be in deplorable condition.

my two cents... If she has been in your family for 40 plus years.... Keep her. If it was me I would be sick to my stomach to see her drive off with someone else... That is a nice jeep.. Looks clean.

Fix what is wrong. Enjoy it.

Plus old jeeps are chick magnets.:driving: :)

I go where ever I feel like in my '60. Just not over 50 mph. Get to see a lot of country at that speed, and smell a lot of roses all those yahoos in their high-powered rocket-powered cages miss entirely.

Same here - I always plan my route to avoid the main roads as much as possible and upload the route on the GPS - I keep up with traffic on the smaller road. The Jeep is old - look like it and "most" people give you a break if you slow down on hills.

Granted, my '70 already had the V6 stock when I bought it, but it cratered shortly after I bought it (there's a thread somewhere with some nice pics in the build forum), and I actually had a freshly rebuilt 302 Ford sitting there (real mild, probably less than 250HP), and decided to source a good running replacement 225, rather than going through the whole engine swap thing. I'm actually rather glad I did. I'm no stranger to engine swaps, but if it's just going to be a cruiser, and you're not trying to go rock crawling, or desert racing or something, I'd vote for just getting the old F-head running.

I have another question to ask. Currently I have two projects going on. One thing I will need to do to make my willy's drivable is to get new wheels for it. Over the years the Tire shops, tightened the wheels so many times on the left side, before realizing it had left handed threads, that out of the 5 wheels, only two will slide on over the front hubs. I think currently I have 235/75/15 tires on the wheels. Which I am thinking about putting on my other project. Is that the best size tire for it? I know when I originally replaced the tires, they had old school sizing on them, it didn't help them being about 20 years old. I am also thinking about going with a more aggressive tire, but am not sure. I figure since the tires before this lasted that long. But I might just get some AT's. Where would the best place be to get some wheels for my Willy's? What would be the best combo for wheel width, offset and tire size? thanks

I understand what you are asking, but there's no quick and concise answer. You need to pick the tires and wheels that fit how you plan to use your Jeep. A CJ will accept quite a large tire without modification. There are many, many options and all of them have their advantages and drawbacks.

If it were for me, I'd make sure the Jeep was safe and reliable, and wheel it. Jeeps are amazingly capable on the trail, and you can have a lot of fun without buying a lot of expensive accessories.

There definitely is no correct answer for what is best. The answer that is closest however would be to use something very similar to what they came from the factory with. That is because the factory chose what was optimal for the Jeep. In essence if you replaced the wheels and tires with equivalent to what you have on there now that would be a good choice.

Like Timgr said, you can fit quite a few different size tires on the Jeep in stock form. I run 31x10.5x15 tires on mine, and it only sliiiightly rubs at full lock. One of the first things I did with my Jeep many years ago was to swap out the wheel studs for modern right threaded ones. Saves a lot of headache, and not necessary unless you are trying to do a complete restoration.
