I currently have a tilt steering column in my CJ2A. I got it cheap and was not too concerned with the quality. Well the proof of concept honeymoon is over and I really want a column thats not boogered up, has functional integral turn signals, a functional integral ignition switch, functional horn and functional locking steering wheel. The one i have has none of these things other than a steering wheel and a working tilt mechanism.

The "new" one is a late 80s cherokee. It may be similar to YJ ones and is complete. It even came with the intermittent wiper box and of course key. The steering wheel is ruined, but the one that I have now, also late 80s cherokee, is fine. My plan is to swap over the steering wheel.

The idea of maybe having a working intermittent wiper box and maybe a windshield wiper is maybe a pipe dream, but tell me if you have done this. Right now I don't even have a wiper motor mounted.

The hardware aspect of the mount is straight forward. Anything weird about this crysler column?

looks like the legwork is right here

I could be wrong and it's hard to tell without a picture, but if it is just like the YJ column is a GM Saginaw column. Should be fairly straight forward to wire up. I have one out of a 93 S-10, which is identical to the YJ column. I have not wired it yet but have been told it is fairly easy if you have the diagram, which it looks like you do.

guess the engine caught fire? I haven't really had time to look at it to determine full functionality or what the 2 different plugs are. I know one is the actually ignition switch the other I have not determined and the box is the intermittent wiper control.

The 3 you can see in the last pic is ignition switch, turn signal and of course wiper. On the other side of ignition is the high beam

So when i remove the spartan knock off signal switch, al this wires are going to connect to the flat connector? Is this flat connector available in female? I can still solder the connections up, no biggie, but a couple bucks for a plug would be nice.

Junk yards round her are a no go. Minimum 35 dollar purchase. They are not at all interested in helping you out or letting you go in the yard either. Its why I buy everything online. Wasted effort to go to those places for me. I guess they sell all their big ticket items like late model engines right to auto body shops who are buying insurance wrecked cars to rebuild and resell. There are some places left hat will let you in the yard, but it might take me an hour or more to get there.

Its a shame too because I love a good junkyard.

Chris, PM me with exact description of the plug you need. I may be able to get you one. Also, while I agree on the floor mounted hi beam switch, a friend showed me a great idea and sort of changed my mind a bit. He had a Chubby pick up from the mid 90s which of course had the hi beam selector on the column. He installed a floor mounted switch, like we would have, or any older vehicle, and wired his 100w KC lights to it. No extra holes in the dash for a switch and a quick stomp on the switch and the road ahead lit up like noon day. Just a thought.

Thats kind of brilliant, both literally and figuratively.

    this is the ignition switch
    [IMG]
and this is the plug for the turn signals and what not

looks like its a standard part from 1969 to 2006. It looks like they are available. I think the ignition switch is different between the tilt and non tilt versions.
