    Hello all,
Trying to get a handle on this new project as i am new to jeeps. I have posted several issues in other threads, but havent been able to find info on this subject. My 63 has thd hood cut out on the side for what i am gather was for a breather, or something. I think its a good thing but have also seen some jeep photos with a piece that fits to close that hole. Anyone know if this was an actual piece that was available or are people making it aftermarket or customizing themselves?

    Thanks. :flag:

I picked mine up on ebay for about $15.
the replacement hood I got for my 66 was from a 65 that had the snorkel cutout.

Yes there is a factory piece that is either screwed or spot welded in place. Like anything else they can be very hard to find when youre looking for one and everywhere when youre not.

This is what you're looking for. ..you'll notice there's holes where it could be bolted or screwed into place (mine is welded, hence no bolts)

Yep...Is there an "Official" name for this piece? Any ideas where to look besides the normal EBAY, etc?

Early CJ5 & CJ6 hoods are the same as M38A1 hoods. Jeep made only one hood and it has the cutout for the air intake snorkel that the Army wanted. The M38A1 had a flange at the end of the exhaust pipe so an extension could be bolted on to raise the exhaust out of the water. The engine was water proofed too. Tom
