T-14 Rebuild -- Questions and Issues

    Hi all,

    I'm putting my T-14 back together mostly with NOS parts and re-using gears.

    I have a few questions concerning re-using old gears/ syncro hubs mostly.

    1. The low/reverse syncro hub shows some some wear on the reverse gear side. Lots of rounding on the inner teeth of the hub there. Should it be reused? Pictures to come..

    2. The low/ reverse syncro is not mating properly to the output shaft. Is there a key spline to set the hubs on this shaft?

    3. What purpose does the little ball bearing serve in the rebuild kits? I don't see this part mentioned anywhere in the FSM or the Universal parts catalog.

    Both of my hubs went on tight. I kept turning them until I found a spot where they would slide on with the least amount of pressure. And the synchro itself seemed to slide on tighter than I would've thought it should.

    Was wondering about the little ball myself, was thinking it went to the shift tower.

    I just called over to Novak since they shorted me a couple parts. They don't know what the little ball goes to either.
    Said he thinks it goes to the shifter.

    Yeah, my synchro hubs came off tight and won't really seat themselves down is the issue...

    I may have gave mine a few light taps with a brass hammer to get them to sit all the way.
    Look real close at your splines for galling or burrs.
    Also a trick I use a a lot at work when fitting tight parts is to mark it up with a sharpie and try to put it on. The marker will rub off in the spots where you are binding up and give you a better idea as to where your problem is.

    Could also try putting your mainshaft in the freezer for a couple hours. That would shrink it by a few tenths of a thousandth and give you a little more wiggle room

    Hope it helped.
    I would guess there's less than .001" clearance on the shaft so it wouldn't take much to bind things up.
