For the past couple weeks I have been busting my knuckles on my TJ. To start with I truly love the North Country, but the salt on the roads has me cussing! I think I'm going to figure out how to afford a sacrificial vehicle into the budget. I degress, so I sold my motorcycle and bought my lift for my Rubicon I have wanted for a while. Along with the lift I have been intrigued by the Treadwright tires, they are retreads with an interesting rubber composite, www.treadwright.com check them out if you haven't already. I purchased a OME lift, and a set of 33" tires. I also decided to replace all of the the control arms with heavy duty replacements, and all the necessary other upgrades that a 4" lift would require.
I was working by myself and I have never done this before, it wasn't to hard, other than fighting every fastener I had to remove. The worst ones were the upper shock attaching bolts on the rear, all four snapped off and I spent many hours drilling and re tapping in place.
The up side is it is all together and I just have a couple of small things to do, and a wheel alignment.
I like the look of the Moab wheels but I wanted them black, I prepped them and painted them with Eastwood wheel paint. It seems very durable, the tire machine barely scratched them. It's the first time I've had a black wheel, I thought they would look good with the Orange paint, I like the results.
Once I shake out the bugs, the trails await.

Dude, why in the world would you want a 'project that keeps you out of bars'?
I figure you've been driving this around for about 10 weeks now and I was wondering how the paint on the wheels was holding up. Still looking good?

Heading out to the bars eat away at my Jeep upgrade allowance too quickly!
I used Eastwood's Black Satin wheel paint http://www.eastwood.com/satin-black-wheel-paint-set.html I prepped the rims very well, without the tires on. Scotch brite sanding pads, feathering all the imperfections and de-glossing really well. I was even surprised that the tire machine didn't mess up the finish too bad, just some light scratches on the bead. I just touched it up with a little paint. I have been wheeling with the painted rims and have been happy. I think because they are black you see more scratching than lighter colors, but no chipping. Most of the scratching comes from creek beds and water crossings. It's the look I wanted, I really like the stock Moab wheels, they are simple and being somewhat narrow fit the tires I wanted. The up side to any scratching is the fix is a couple quick squirts from the rattle can and good as new.

Since this is more about wheel paint vs bars, I've been using Plasti Dip in a spray can for a couple of years. I use it on a number of parts, the best thing is, you don't have to worry about over spray. Since it's rubber, just peel off the excess, no masking required (unless you suck at painting). Touch ups are a snap too. I've got lots of coworkers hooked on it. You can even paint your rig for a protective barrier against the trail branches. Just peel it off, it won't hurt the paint.

One day at a time, my friend. :)
    You're not alone.
    Congrats on 9 months!

Joe, your Rubi reminds me of my buddy's 2005 orange Rubi. His is on 35s, seen here with some of our Tioga group in October 2013:
