Best I could do right now as I didn't have time to pull the dizzy and I have to drive it in the am to town. I couldn't see any markings. Can you tell if it looks like yours?

I have noticed it running much better since I have been using it regularly to plow snow, so it may be for naught.

It looks like a Delco odd fire dist with a pertronics unit installed.
There's been lot's of posts about timing the dist to the cam properly.
You should try a search of the forum, once you figure it out, it's not too hard for the next time.:v6:

jeepfreak It looks to me like you have the even fire rotor on it. Can't see too clearly but the correct rotor should have the long curved tab. Also the pic shows something (a strap) that goes from the movable breaker plate over to the vacuum adv control arm? Never seen this before. Is it a ground wire?

P.S. maybe should have started your own thread as this can confuse other posters.

I am having the same issue as the OP, and I am trying to determine if my distributor is the same as his before I just throw parts at it, I do not see why that would need to become a different thread. If my distributor is different then I would see why I need to make a different thread to determine what I have and if I have the wrong parts on it.

The distributor has a Pertronix unit eliminating the points. I believe that is what you may be seeing, as far as the rotor, I would have to get a picture more clearly of that, as I very well could have been given the wrong one and not realized it. It has been running 'different' for about 2 years now, which is about the time of the last tune up. But in those two years it only saw a couple hundred miles because I couldn't put my infant in it and I took a different job where I am not home a lot.

This year it has had a few thousand miles as my buddy was DDing it, but it was not running real well the whole time.

Yes I realize you have the same problem but other viewers that followed the original post have seen where he solved his problem and may not come back to this thread. Just trying to suggest. I know you have the petronix in it and can see where the feed wires go down thru the housing. The one I am talking about is the wire or strap that shows in your second pic that goes across the vacuum advance pull arm. Looks like it may restrict the amount of advance if it is rigid. Just wondering.

Even if the vac advance isn't getting full movement, it won't cause the engine to run *that* poorly. I'd be willing to bet money you've also got the wrong cap and rotor. Start there and go with the part numbers the OP posted. Let us know how it worked.

I've had similar problems with my 225 I have the offy intake and a holley 390.. the way I got it smoothed out was a new cap and rotor and hotter plugs.. PO had used a cheap cap and was running copper plugs once I changed that and did a bit of tuning on the carb it has been good.

It looks like my distributor, and in the one pic I see the long curved tang on the rotor. I'd try the other cap before looking any further. Good luck.

Finally bought the above cap, going to try it, but it still has the points window like the one I have and looks the same upon initial inspection. Though the local NAPA charged $30 for it... I'll test it this weekend.

Jeepfreak, did you ever solve the problem? If so, how? Inquiring minds want to know!
