    This came out of the rear axle of an old Willys wagon or truck, not sure which. Trying to figure out what the rear axle was or, rather what this power lock fits, it's date of manufacture, and of the ring gear, and if the PL or any of it's parts would work in a 44 or 27. I saw the axle it came out of and am sure, mostly, that is was NOT a 44. So, can anyone decode the numbers. Numbers on the PL are: 8 22.69 B 21917X

    Ring gear says: 9 6 61 DANA 30245 A8(or 3)R98 38-8

    I figured out it's a 4.88, well 4.87, ring gear. I know it wasn't the old Timken split rear. Maybe a Dana 53? I can guess some of the numbers are dates but, not really sure. If I can't use any of it, and no one wants it, I will take it apart to learn about power locks. I am unsure of it's condition. Thanks.

    30245 = Model 53, 4:88
    Truck
    keeper for parts and or ?

    there were some weird variations of the 53 used in Jeep trucks
    some had a 44 center with 53 ends

    although I'm only aware of 1 part number used for 53 powerlocks.

    this powerlock most likely would have 10 spline/course side gears inside.

    neat find, getting much harder to find as these axles get scrapped.

    I counted 20 splines (yea, 20). Didn't believe it and counted 3 times. 20 each time. I thought maybe 19 but, I keep getting 20. Never heard of such a thing. Googling now..............................and it is so as evidenced below. Hmmm. Interesting. So I wonder if the clutch plates would even be interchangeable with those in 44 or 27 power lock.

    Post it at www.ifsja.org - like Jim says, the 53 stuff is generally unobtainium. You might find somebody that really really wants it over there.

    Yup. 20 spline. Threw me for a loop. Didn't know there was such a thing. And, Tim, thanks for the link. I may put there for sale but, will likely give ecj5ers first shot at it, in a day or two.

    My understanding is the 53 housing was unique when used with the Powerlock. Never been able to confirm or deny for sure but that's what I was told by several people "in the know". Years ago John at Border Parts in California was buying up all that stuff. He might still be......

    Hey Whellie. Do you still have this Dana 53 Power Loc? If so I'd be interested.
