I assume this has been covered before, but I couldn't find it in a thread search. What mods are required for an ECJ5 ('71) conversion to YJ springs? Anyone have photos of a conversion?

Pretty sure we had a tech article about this back on the old site. Author was hudsonhawk? Send him a PM and ask about it.

Springs are longer and wider than cj's. .........need new mounts on frame and need to move location of mounts to center in wheel opening........did this on my cj6 and not a job for the timid

Thanks for the replies. I looked at the website; good write up and looks like a nice kit. I had decided to go with the BDS 2.5' lift spring kit (current springs are all broken). Another project may be sucking a lot of money and I thought a YJ conversion may save some money. Looks like about the same cost either way (with used YJ springs).

This Jeep will be lighter trail stuff and on road. The BDS sprigs have gotten great reviews from other folks who have used them. If the YJ springs will give better handling may be a good choice

Anyone have opinions about the BDS vs YJ conversion?

Great off road because it had a lot more travel......made the sway on road a challange..........ways to get around that....type shocks, custom sway bars , etc...........If I were building the 6 again I'd rethink much of what I did including the YJ springs

Howdy, I went with the 3.5 springs, and I think they are to tall. Yes, I would go with the 2.5's, go spring under and use adjustable shocks to control roll on the street. Again, I would not go spring over, (your mileage may be different). Should be more double on a CJ5 as the frame is longer.

Takes forever to get my order filled from RockyRoad. It has been two weeks and the only parts I have received is the springs. Not happy.
