Has anyone heard of Mohawk Tires?

I was checking out the brakes on the Jeep and I noticed the name of the tires. They must be originals, even though the rims are not?

Mowhawk Storm Trac L78x15. I'll post a picture as soon as I can if you want to see them.

They're in good shape, holding air, and plenty of tread!

    L78x15?
I forget when they did away with alpha numeric tire sizes, but I bet they're at least 25 years old...

I don't know if it's still there but Mohawk used to make tires (some or all?) in Salem, Virginia about 30 years ago. They also made a LOT of the odd brand named tires.

There should a date code on the tire if you care.

Mohawk also had a plant in Arkansas. One of the bigger employers. Think they sold out/shut down in mid 70's. I have a Mohawk NDT on one of my M100 trailers. It's in great shape considering it's age!

I have a set of four Mohawk Storm Trac tires on my '51 CJ-3a. The previous owner said that his dad put them on in 1959 when they bought the jeep. They still look good, and he flat towed it here from Ohio just two years ago..They are 8.45/8.85 -15's. The small print indicates that this size replaced the 7.60-9.00-15.

I have pictures but I need to re-learn how to post them.

    Here we go..
