Well I did several searches within the forum and found lots of fuel pump info, but I still have a question...

Does anyone know the Carter part number of the original dual action fuel/vacuum pump, with the glass bowl top, as used on the early CJ-5 134 F head engine?

I found one that looks identical to the picture in the service manual but the owner said that it fits the 6-226..no mention of the 134.

Anyone have one they can look at for a part number or any other number to identify the right pump?

Like many others this one was replaced in the late 80's and it now has the dual action pump, but without the glass bowl. Originals seem to be pretty scarce..

    Thanks!

Somebody with the old parts book will respond ... but it may not be quick.

You could try the usual sources, like Walck's or De Bella.

    Hey Randy!

No luck on any numbers stamped on it that I can see. There is "Made In U.S.A." on there twice. I took some photos of mine with my T3i for a bit of guidance. I just replaced mine with a new single-stage pump, as I'm converting to electric on the wipers. I didn't know if this one needed to be rebuilt or not, so it's been in a box up in the attic of my garage with all the rest of the pulled-off parts that I have replaced. I hope that this helps.

I have put all the photos up at http://jfabdotcom.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html, but here's a sample picture:

Just off the top of my head I say that 1955 vintage would have had an AC 4032 dual action fuel pump.
The AC 4080 may have also been around by 1955.
Or you could go with the slightly later AC 4693 which has a slding pillow block type of cam follower.

The AC model number will be seen on the thin edge of the mounting flange.

    Wow, great and informative replies!

Jeff, though your pump is for a 134 f head engine, I think it was originally out of a different Willy's vehicle as it only has the one vacuum source. As you can see in the exploded drawing the early jeeps with the vacuum windshield wipers had to fittings for two vacuum hoses, one to the wipers and the other to the crankcase vent.

Ken, thanks so much for the numbers. I found a 4032 on ebay and bought it. The pictures looked exactly like the drawing....With any luck it will do the job!

    Thanks Again!

I have a couple questions on this topic.

    1) Will any of the fuel pumps above (4032, 4080, or 4693) work on a F134?
    2) what year(s) does each model associate with? I have a 63 CJ6.
    2) Where can you get rebuild kits for the 4032 ir 4693? It looks like Walcks has the 4080 kit.
    4) Is any pump better or worse if they are interchangeable?
    Thanks!

The NOS pump I bought on ebay turned out to be an AirTex # 4032....Looks the part and all the fittings are in the right place. From what I can tell the AirTex is a period aftermarket pump. It has both vacuum fittings and the glass bowl top, but I have not yet installed it, too many other things going on...

If you still have vacuum windshield wipers and want to use them (it), you will need a pump with two vacuum fittings. One for the wiper motor/actuator and one for the crankcase vent. The pump I'm currently using was bought in the 80's and has both vacuum fittings but no glass filter bowl on top of the pump. Works fine and this style is what is currently available, though I do not know the make or the part #....

    1) Yes all those pumps were used on CJ's.
    2) Your 1963 CJ was likely equipped with the AC 4693
    3) Original rebuild kits are extremely scarce.
It took me about 5 years to find one on Ebay for my 4693
    4) Many but not all of the parts will be interchangable.
From those listed No one particular pump is much if any better than the others.
The most notable difference is that the AC 4693 usually but not always was equipped with a sliding pillow block type of camshaft eccentric follower.

I believe the AC 4080 was not always but most often found on the 150 FC trucks.

Old thread I know but I figured this was a good place to ask. If I can't find a rebuild kit, is there somewhere or someone who could rebuild my 4693 for me?

    Thanks.

Now and Then rebuilds f pumps but they're not cheap! ~$150 IIRC.

BTW I have a pump exactly like that show in the manual above but I can't find a number on it ANYWHERE!
