Yesterday I had to do some digging in the shed and had to move a bunch of the parts that came with my CJ6 when it was someone else's basket case. I got a good look at the gas tank and skid that came with it and I am pretty sure it is not original to an intermediate CJ. The tank appears to be the correct size but it has no mounting provisions on the flange for the 3 intermediate frame mounting points. It looks like someone had strapped it to the skid plate to retain it. The skid is clearly not original (made in taiwan) but appears to fit the tank and was hacked in place on the previous owners build so it appears to fit int he space in the frame.

Anyone out there have a good clear picture of what the OEM intermediate skid looks like when not mounted in the frame? I want to see how close this skid is to the original so I can decide if I need just a new tank or if I need a new skid too.

    Thanks

    Bob

Thanks to both of you. That is exactly what I needed to see. Mine appears to be deeper than those. Any chance one of you could measure the exact width of the skid and how deep it is from the bottom to the top of the mounting points?

    Thanks

22 3/4" wide. 5" to the top of the mounting. One side is vertical other has a 90 * brake with a flange that is approximately 1 3/8".

Just put on a 73 factory skid plate. It is in real good shape but was a bear to get to line up. Does anyone have some measurements from the frame to the bottom of the skid? Mine has 3/4 to 1 inch difference when viewed from the back. Is this because the gas tank pick up is on that side? Looks even underneath the tank, about a half inch. Thanks.
