First thing in the morning I will be traveling on a 4 hour trip (2 hours each way) to inspect and likely purchase a Meyer full hardtop for my 59 cj5. the guys asking for $350 obo im not sure if that's the deal of the century or if its a rip-off, I don't really have a clue what it should cost. all I do know is this is the first hardtop I've seen for sale in probably 2 years anywhere close to me. It has a softball size dent on both left and right front corners where it slips over the windshield, should probably pound out pretty close without much effort.

I see from online searching this top should unbolt into sections and I will probably be taking my Silverado with a 6.5 foot bed by itself to pick it up. I had considered taking my 22 foot flat trailer to get it or towing my jeep there and bolt it onto the jeep for the trip home. What are your guys' opinions on how I should transport this top home? should I place it in my trucks bed intact and if so, in what arrangement so that it doesn't become a sail and catching the wind the hole trip? or should I disassemble it and stack pieces mostly flat on top of each other? I'm pretty sure its already been decided its not worth taking that large of flat trailer or jeep to get it, since I don't want to be towing a trailer unnecessarily through an unfamiliar town.

And I'll probably be running this top as is until spring when its time to take it off. And once its off for spring I will probably be fully disassembling it and painting it the original white color. At least im pretty sure that's what it should be. I've never heard of a factory black color top.

I just hauled one last weekend in the back of a standard pickup............take a bunch of moving blankets and some rachet straps...........put it in there with the rear closest's to the cab.........if you have a piece of plywood that will reach between the top of the fender wells to each side that may also help............you should be fine.

Yea, take some 2x4's and a screw gun along and crib it up in the back of the truck. Then strap 'er down and move out.

This stuff is nearly impossible to find separately, so, if it doesn't have all of this, then it's worth much less, IMO.

    Travel safe.

I hauled a Kelley top pretty much the same way as everyone described, you should be fine. I'd say you got a fair deal. :)

I just got back from purchasing the top. The guy had no hinges on the body side but both doors had theirs attached. no spacer things for the sides of the windshield and no small bar thingy for the fuel filler area. Ill probably put a WTB ad in the classifieds. The lock on the rear door is completely busted off but I think it just takes a normal T-handle lock like a canopy on a pickup takes. all Glass is intact and door windows both roll. Aside from the dents previously pictured, the only other damage is it appears to have had a 1/4" plate added onto the outside of the front corner where one of the dents was then was bondo-ed over. Shouldn't probably be too hard to fix these issues. and until I come up with the hinges I wont be able to mount it. Also I did talk the guy down to $300. and since I didn't want to risk bending or hurting something on the drive home I just unbolted all sections and stacked them well and tied them all down flat inside my pickup bed and had no problems.

I scrapped a top a few years ago, rusted out on the sides, and I don't even have a CJ5 per say, so in the scrap it went. Anyway the only thing that got saved was the little filler piece for the fuel filler indent and the glass. You can have the filler piece if you pay the shipping. The glass is here for anyone that wants to come get it.
