Does anyone have an old, scrap set of D44 carrier bearing laying around? I need a scrap set to hone out and use for set up bearings...so I can dail in for my "new" bearings, without having to press them on & off the carrier.... you can't make this stuff up.

    Thanks

If you are going to install new bearings, why not hone out the old ones?

You are correct, honing out the old ones is the logical first choice... BUT the old ones are gone. They stayed around here for over 2 years and accidently went to the recycler 3 weeks ago, and NOW I'm ready to install the new gears and spool.

Didn't realize what had happened until it was too late. Oh the pain!! So here I sit, looking for another scrap set.

Go to your local bearing supplier and buy the cheapest thing they can get. I was able to get some for my D30 setup for like $5-6. Doesn't hurt as much to hone out a new "cheap" bearing, then just put them on the shelf for next time or sell 'em to someone else that needs 'em.

If your not in a big hurry I'm currently working on like 6 or 8 axles.
All flavors D25... D27... D30... and several kinds of D44's.
I'm pulling most all the bearings to be replaced.
I know for sure that I have an extra set of flanged D44 bearings that are ready to get scrapped out right away.
The main thing holding me back is finding new bearings.
I'm very picky NOS DEEP stamped Timkens only.
In fact maybe I should post a WTB.
PM me when you know whether you need #25590 or #25577.

The flanged D44 bearings should work, the front & rear axles I am setting up came from a FSJ, and the rear is flanged. I believe they are 30 spline, definitely not D44-2 tappered axles. PM sent.

    Thanks

I have a set of 25590's, already honed out. Used 'em when I set up the flanged 44 in my CJ.
BTW, honing them out is more difficult than you'd think.
