Does anyone have any suggestions for and air cleaner for the F134 motor. I have 1 ugly bubbified air cleaner and an original oil bath but would like suggestions for any better options.

    Thanks

    Why not use the original?

The original Oil bath cleans the air really well. Like all air cleaners it needs regular service. Keeping it original keeps the operating cost down.

Fair enough. Dumb question, but what would the regular maintenance of the oil bath be? I pulled it off the parts jeep today but didn't tear into it. I am assuming that you can remove the element for cleaning?

The "element" is steel mesh, and isn't to be removed. IIRC, you clean the mesh with kerosene, and change the oil in the base of the cleaner (fill it to the fill line) and replace.

i have the same engine. i recently upgraded to a k&n air filter. works great. maybe a little too great though. it's a little too free-flowing and makes a sucking air sound rather loud. i'm gonna try and find a foam wrap that you see on some air cleaners to restrict to flow a little to cut down on the noise. when choosing just measure the diameter of the metal piece that connects to the top of the carb and attach it to that piece.

There is a clean K&N installation on this page about 2/3 of the way down. It really depends on what you want. I have had both paper and oil bath on different rigs. No difference in performance that I saw.

Not a big fan of the K&N filters for Jeeps. They let a lot of fine particles through, as evidenced by the high silicon content of oil in engines so equipped. A paper filter with a foam wrap is much more effective.

"better" in what way? This is not a racing application. Oil baths are regarded very highly for cleaning ability.

A foam wrap added to the oil bath is a bullit proof decision. Remember the oil bath doesen't filter anything at a idle. Anything over 1200 RPM they work great, when serviced regular. Kind of depends on where you operate. Some off road and stationary equipment use to say don't idle in dusty conditions, probably why they want to paper elements. The paper elements aren't cheaper, just better in the long run. Most of us don't do that much ideling in the desert when the wind is blowing. Some of the old Jeep manuals had a air flow chart. They didn't say that they didn't work at a idle they just gave you the facts and flow rate, you can read it and figure it out.

I still run the oil bath, they work great!! When It's time to change the oil, it still amazes me the amount of dirt and junk that comes out of it. as long as my F head is in my JEEP it will have the oil bath filter.
