i'm going to pull my t90 trans this soon. i'm tired of it leaking like crazy from the front. (i know it's the trans and not the engine rear main seal). i got the sealed main front bearing as i have researched it is the way to go. any advice or tips on how to do it? i have no idea where to start after i pull the trans. any tools needed? how do i pull the old bearing out? how do i put the new bearing in? has anyone here done this? and if so, did it stop the leaking?

any info or advice would be great.

You will need to dissassemble the T90 to replace the input bearing. Search "T90 rebuild" and you will find a wealth of info. If I were doing this, I would put a rebuild kit in it too as long as it's apart-unless it has had a recent rebuild.

ALWAYS put new brass syncros in when its apart if you don't know when they were done last. Just a few mins and a few bucks and you won't have to pull the damn thing in 3 months as it seems to work out :)

i just had the tranny gone through less than a year ago. i had a new gear and syncro put in. everything works great, it just leaks like crazy. i dont want to bring it back to the guy who rebuilt it though. the whole thing about it leaking so bad makes me not ever want to go back to the guy. he didn't make any attempt to make it right.

so, are you guys saying i have to take apart the tranny just to put in a new front main bearing???? i was hoping i could just pull the old one out and put in the new sealed version one.

I don't think you will get the bearing off the input shaft without all the mainshaft needle bearings ending up in the bottom of the case. Guess you could give it a try-worst case is you will have to tear it down anyway. Just make sure you keep the input all the way towards the rear.

The T-90's didn't originally come with a sealed bearing and the one I'm running doesn't either. I know a sealed bearing would be an up-grade to the tranny but mine has a slight seepage like most. I think you have something else going on.

I recently repaired one in a 3b. The countershaft was dumping fluid from between the case and the bellhousing.Cleaned the front of the tranny and the bellhousing, applied a bead of Mopar axle rtv and reassembled...no more leak! It was leaking real bad!

well i got the sealed bearing installed. hopefully it works. what do you guys think... should i put the felt seal back on. (the felt seal the goes on the the main shaft and then the bearning retainer bolts up squishing it). the guy who put the bearing in said yes, but i think no. theres no point now that the bearing is sealed, and with no oil behind it, do you think it could burn up??

How many needle bearings are in the input shaft? Because I am doing the same thing this weekend.

1957 willys: i'm not sure about the needle bearings. i had it done at a local shop here in CA. he was however able to do it without removing the shaft. don't know how exactly, but looks and spins good.

The area between the new sealed bearing and the felt washer should be oil free but not clutch dust free so yes install the felt washer. I would oil soak the washer before install.
