Has anyone found a source for buying small quantity of 4 1/2 inch fresh air intake hose? Can't find it locally anywhere (always 3 1/2 or 4 inch) and on-line folks that have it all seem to require minimum purchases of 25 ft. Only need 3 feet and hate to have 22 feet "spare" sitting in the garage.

I have 12 feet left. Its a little stiff, kind of requires a little angle to be cut on the grill end of the hose to make the corner, but its the right dims'.

IIRC JC Whitney used to sell a short length of the right size. Worth a look.

That was where I found it too. I was hoping to find something "generic" that wouldn't run $13+ per foot.... I have quite a bit of 4-inch from my shop's dust collection system leftovers. Do y'all think it would cause problems if I fabricated some reducing fittings and ran 4" instead of 4.5"? The dust collection hose would look pretty cool too...it's clear!

The clear hose might not stand up to under hood temps. Reduce 4.5" to 4" is a 25% reduction in XSec area. Just like exhaust tubing, a small change in diameter makes a big change in flow. Up to you ...

Tim, I think you're right, the clear tubing won't handle the engine heat and reducing surface area 20-25% probably not a good idea. I'll keep looking for another solution. 900 other things to fix so I've got plenty of time!!

While you're at it, I'd add some sort of basic filter to that mesh air collection screen on the grill.
When I took my heater core out to be cleaner/tested, all sorts of little bugs appeared to have gotten into the fins on the core. Maybe it was just from sitting, but I'm gonna rig a little "filter" just in case.

Outstanding! Thanks Andrew. Rockauto has it for $6.06....perfect.

Crawl-O-Matic, great idea about adding a sort of pre-filter. I've got some hvac filter material that I will cut and put against the grid at the grill end. If you need any, let me know.

They only sell it in packs of 6, so it's actually $36.36. But you'll have 5 spares though! ;)

4.5"x 6' @ $6.06. Add it to the cart and price ends up at $36.36.
After getting on RA again I see Andrew is right. I was wrong.
