I need tio install some kind of seat in the cj5 so it can be driven. I have a freind with some old YJ seats , will these work on the stock 66 seats brackets? i am not sure if i want to go lowback stock or highback when i restore the old girl but i need seats now and i dont want to trash the stock brackets either. so any ideas would be a real help:D

x2 on that! my first set of seats were picked up along the road someone threw them away, dont have any idea what they came out of :) second set are out of a 97 camaro high backs, you will have to fab em in if they aren't original.

well sounds like stock type seats would be easier. ON another note. did the 66's come with stationary seats or was there a sliding track?.

My seats came out of a 78 chevette, but I believe they are the same as millions of seats GM put in their smaller cars in the 70's and 80's. The passenger side did require a little fab work, but it was just a little welding a drilling some new holes. the driver pretty much side bolted right up-i think I had to wallow out the holes, added some spacers to correct the height.

driver side- couldn't get a pic of the bottom with my camera, but there was no fab work to show.

Not sure about the 66 but my 68's are fixed to the seat frame with a bolt at each corner. They can be adjusted a little bit but you have to unbolt it and line up the seat with holes that are already in the seat frame (on mine I believe there are four different holes drilled into the seat frame for forward and rear adjustment). The trouble is, is that you can't go back too far because the seat back contacts the fender well. A bunch of guys notch the fender well a couple of inches to move the seat back a bit. I'm sure if you do a couple searches you can find the mod.

If I didn't live in a small town where they want $18 per 3 feet of tubing I would have made my own frame at this point.

Don't know about '66, but the later seats did have adjusters on the driver's side. The adjusters don't matter unless you are, say, 5' 6" or under (a guess). An average size man is comfortable with the seat all the way back, and anyone of above average height is cramped.

If you have the factory seats, you could take them to an upholstery shop and have them recovered. The factory buckets introduced in the '60s are darn comfortable IMO, and there will be no question that they will fit.

My 68 has sliders on both sides. Passenger side is still jammed, have never been able to get it to move.

I believe my '66 has stock seats that have been recovered. The drivers seat does not have sliders and is adjustable by unbolting and repositioning it. My old '66 did not have sliders either.
