My 225 starts fine when its cold, but after its up to temp you really have to crank it over for like 5 to 10 seconds to get it to start. If you even think about touching the gas it won't start like its flooded. Any ideas what it could be? I've rebuilt the carb twice, but can't recall when this started. Any suggestions appreciated.

Choke partially closed.... not opening fully when warmed up.

This is one reason I've always preferred a manual choke on the Dauntless/2G.

No, its a manual choke 2g, choke wide open. It will start right up if you try it as soon as you kill it. Anything over five minutes and it's
    hard to start.

possibly check your points? see if the gap is within specs.

mine did that and it was a combination of points weren't adjusted right, and my coil was going out but check simple things first no need to replace parts that are good.

Warm it up. Turn it off.Take the air cleaner off, look down the carb. and see if there is any white smoke coming up the carb. White smoke is Gas.Needle and seat bad,to much fuel pressure etc.

What is the reccommended fuel pressure on a 225, 2G, mechanical fuel pump? It does have a return line going from the filter back to the fuel tank. Also, a guy told me he had a problem with a Qjet, where it had lead plugs in the bowl. One of the plugs cracked and allowed fuel to drain into the intake over a period of time. Anyone heard of this? Thanks

FSM says 3 3/4 lbs.minimum at specified idle with the return hose squeezed off.2 1/2 lbs with the return open.

Yes, I have seen the Q-Jet plugs leak.

The 2g doesn't have any plugs in the fuel area, only on the outside.

I suggest that you install a small fuel filter in front of the carb, one of the see-through type. Install as close to the carb as possible. If the gas is evaporating out of the carb, there should still be fuel in the filter, unless the fuel pump is letting it leak back into the tank. I wouldn't leave the fuel filter in place permanently, sitting on top of the engine, plastic and heat and gas aren't a good combination, but it will give you some insight into what the hot hard start issue is.
