Trans T-18 Noise

My t-18 is making a high piched noise. This is a rebuilt trans I put in along with a 225 about a year and a half ago to replace a f-head and t-90. This is a trail jeep with under 500 miles. The whine just started last month and after it warms up after 4 or 5 minutes, seems to be consistent through all the gears and in neutral, but when I press down on the clutch peddle, even just a little bit the noise goes away. I should add that I used Novaks hydraulic clutch cylinder. I am guessing it is the pilot bushing or the input shaft. I hope to pull it out this weekend. I was wondering if I am on the right track with this and what would cause this bushing or bearing to go out so quickly?

 

I would think its the throw out bearing making contact with clutch fingers . try giving it more free play . another thing it could be is front bell housing cover is rubbing flywheel

 

The indicator is applying clutch and the sound goes away. Chances are that the hyd clutch slave is applying just enough pressure to hold the T.O. bearing just slightly to the P/plate causing the noise (as said in prev post=twin2) and you may have to put a stronger clutch return spring on it to get the needed T.O. bearing clearance and adjust the slave rod to get proper clutch pedal freeplay.

 

Had the same symptons occur. Adjusted the play in the clutch (as suggested above), and it went away.

 

Thank you for the replies. I removed the front dust cover and pushed the clutch fork all the way in while running with no changes.

 

Your a very brave or ? man to do something like that! Never in my life would I have done that.
