I am finishing up wiring my 58 cj with a ez wiring harness and I have just one issue that I am not sure about. For some reason my left rear turn signal doesn't work and I have a feeling the turn signal switch is causing the issue. I am running a column out of a 73 commanche, that is what I was told it was from when I bought it, after searching the net I found very little info on that year columns. Everything else is working fine; flashers all work, clearance lights, brake lights, right turn front and back and front left turn all work correctly. The only one that isn't working is the left rear turn. BTW, I have installed a led backup/tail/turn light in the back and wired the front for both turn and clearance lights. Here is how the column is wired:

    White turn flasher
    yellow left front turn
    brown left rear turn
    orange right rear turn
    pink hazard
    black right front turn
    blue brake
    black/yellow horn

Does anyone see anything wrong, or am I correct that I have a bad turn signal switch? Thanks.

Are both your rear lights the LED type or just the left rear?

Both rear lights are LEDs and the fronts are incandesents which is enough resistants to drive the flasher. I am tempted to buy a new turn/hazard switch but at $80 I don't want to gamble on it. If I run a jumper to the left rear circuit in the steering column the light will flash so the wiring is good.

If it were mine I would open the turnsig switch and look. If the contact button has melted down into the nylon base then that contact has been subjected to a direct short. If you have an intermittent short in the wiring then it will likely cause the new switch to become defective. Just a heads up..

might not have enough resistance to make the flasher work. or you might have a bad connection.

Resistance is good because the right hand side does work and flash and it is the same setup as the left. As for shorts, I can make all the circuits work buy running a jumper from the flasher power in to each of the 4 wires going to the lights. Plus the flashers work correctly. I thought about removing the clip that holds the upper and lower section of the turn signal switch together but from the looks of it once I take the clip off I won't be able to reuse the clip. But this might be my only choice without spending money is verifying the switch is work properly by taking it apart.

Those clips can usually be found at tractor supply, Ace, and Home Depot. They are nothing special. A sharp pointed awl to force the fingers out to keep from breaking the mounting prong. When you re-assemble just put a small socket over the shaft and tap the new clip down snug.

Well found the problem. Finally started thinking a little and went to the library and found a manual for a 73 jeep and found I had the brake power in and left rear turn light wires switched around. I changed those two wires around and everything started working. I was suprised to find with the wiring incorrect that everything would work except the left rear turn.

Yep weird because the right rear stop should not have worked either. Glad you got it tho.
