Not a "Jeep" trailer , but will hopefully be towed by one.
It's also the summer project that pulled me away from 67 CJ5

Start with wore out Tractor Supply "build your own" 4x8 trailer from 20 years ago

Removable 3/4" square tubing cross braces for kayak brackets
    Pretty happy with the result
    Also solves kayak storage problem

This should be interesting. I want to get a canoe/kayak or a rowboat (preferably) in the distant future.

My only concern with trailer wheels that small like yours (and mine, I have a similar trailer), is that they spin awful fast at highway speeds and get hot. Plus they're kinda dinky.

I wonder if there's a larger rim that will fit that 4-bolt hub; something like a 13 or 14" rim?

You'll get more use out of that trailer than you ever imagined.

I personally wouldn't worry about those tiny tires. I put about 2-3000 miles a year on a very similar trailer. It's my go-to bike hauler/cabinet deliverer/lumber truck/off road utility trailer that is routinely overloaded and run up to 75 mph in upwards of 95° summer heat. I've never had a flat (knock on wood). I just recently replaced one tire with the spare because I noticed a chunk of rubber missing from the tread; it must've hit something.

I’m not too worried about highway speeds. I live between two lakes so there’s no reason to have it on interstate. I’ve had the trailer for over 20 years. I’ve hauled everything from gravel to an outhouse on it (yep, an actual outhouse). It tougher than it looks.

Having kayak fished for many years and been thru several levels of mods to a trailer for kayaks the one thread that is the one spot to see 26 pages of other peoples trailer.
do a google search for "texaskayakfishing' post your trailer" thread. Yes photobucket got a bunch of pics over there too. But the point there is there is lots of ideas there to work toward or modify to your liking.

Just switched from a jon boat to a Hobie this last year. It’s a neat boat but boy is it heavy. I have an old utility trailer so I’m looking to do the same thing.

    Your work is inspiring. GJ!
