I came across an ad for one lately and I started researching them. My understanding is they were made by Willys, Mitsubshi, or Mahandra depending on where they were to be put into service based on the "Alliance for Progress" program where we supplied these vehicles to allied forces in the 50's and 60's. Tooling rights to produce them where farmed out to all three of the companies to support the defense efforts in their region(s). Model produced under this program recieved the decal depicted below.

Do we have a member here that has an M-606?

I don't own one, but this Kaiser spec sheet is a good general description of the M-606A3. I believe that variant was among the later, if not the latest version produced.

Interesting. I didn't know they made a round fender version. I located this on another forum.

I have a Cj3B that I was making into an M606 clone, I had that decal reproduced and applied it to the jeep, I began this endeavor back in '10 and so far it has stalled out. I too researched the differences and they were only made by Kaiser/Willys for export to other countries for non battle vehicles and to South Vietnam back in the 50s-60s. Mitsubuishi made a variant of the M606 for the SVA during the war. Replacement military data plates are avail, and it could be easy to sell as a original, but a smart buyer needs to research vehicle specs and keep and eye out for look a likes. I still drive mine around and plan on finishing it up as USAF vehicle instead of a M606clone. The M606 was a flatty not a round fendered jeep:cool: 20181128_170742.jpg 20190506_142904.jpg

Why not do both, an M606 USAF clone? The M606 was most likely in the pacific theater (Viet Nam) and Clark AFB maybe. If its a Willys and not a Mitsubshi or a Mahindra its feasible it "could" have seen military service during that time period. If your going for a clone it could work

Being an air force brat, I grew up at Castle AFB, Beale AFB and Carswell AFB it would be built to honor my Dad's service to this great country of ours.

I've never seen the spec sheet on the M606a3, so its interesting to see the 3.34 first gear and 4.27 axle ratio, like the '64-up CJ5. I think we have seen 1 or 2 of these come up on eBay/Craigsist section in the past year or two.
Typically, I think of the military version of the CJ3B as an M606. I didn't relize the "A3" version was the post M38a1 Jeep.

So far I'm suprised with the diversity of the forum, nobody has a real M606. I do appreciate those who have responded. I'm learning more already. (y)

Hopefully someone will chime in. And of course :pics:

I thought we had a member with a Mitsubishi or Mahindra built jeep. Big issue I see is the current operators of those jeeps may not speak English.

    Much to read here.
    M606 Military Jeeps on CJ3B.info
    The M606 is a 3B variant.
The M606A1, A2 & A3 are CJ5 variants. Most were shipped overseas. There was one for sale awhile back (A 1969 IIRC) and this was kicked around.
I don't know much on the A1 but have a service manual on the A2 & A3. The A2 is straight 12V. The A3 has a second battery to power a military radio. It has a 12 and 24V charging system. The A3 runs everything on 12V except the 24V for the radio. Both have a Military BO light set up and a cowl battery box. The pictures in the manual appear to show no tailgate, bumperettes and rear mounted spare. The first four of the VIN are 7805.

There is some info on this site and an external Google search will give you more. As for the original question I've not seen anyone post on it.

I've always been drawn to the less common, so your kinda making my point as I'm sure many M-606's never made it back to the states. Which make them rare and super cool in my book.

There are quite a few M606 owners located in Brazil and other SA countries that stay in touch on the CJ3B page, but it has since merged with the Cj3A page, better for both forums.

I found j54mitsu's profile page and the link to his flickr pictures. As it turns out his is not a M-606 rather just a late model Mitsubishi (1976). Its very clean Jeep though . . . but not an M-606. In the later models they rounded the front fenders. Which in the later models, I'm learning is a dead give away for the Mitsubishi and Mahindra models of the 3b.

An old buddy of mine (that I lost touch with years ago) bought what he thought was a 3B in North Georgia. As he started to tear it apart he discovered that it was an M606 with various US 8th Army, Korea markings. I believe that his was an early 60s model. In any event, the thing had a gov't nomenclature tag and all sorts of unit markings under the paint as well as dash decals and tub and bumper markings that he was able to decipher during restoration and eventually reproduce. It's been a few years since we've talked, but I'll see if I can track him down and see if he still has the jeep or at least some pictures.

No tool indents on the passenger side, so I think he was right and it wan't an M606.

    Nice rig though.
