A little dumping trailer for the yard and running around to pick up small stuff. Same width as my CJ6 when done. Sides will be wood in stake pockets with a flare out on top

I built one to have the exact same track as my CJ5, and plenty of ground clearance for off road. Quarter-cord capacity, stake sides. Gravity dump, and I use a boat winch on the tongue to control the release. It has been extremely useful over the years.

One suggestion - I made it with a very short tongue, for getting through tight spots, but that makes it very touchy to back up, especially with a Jeep. Next time I would make the tongue extendable for variable length.

I primed and painted it using Tractor Supply Majic in IH Red. It was 36 degrees when I started to prime. The garage was full of junk so outdoors we go! Primer dried in about an hour. I started with the paint and primer house temp warm. We flipped it over and started to paint. It immediately started snowing like crazy. Throw stuff quickly out of the way in the garage. Heck with it, I wiped the snow off. The skies cleared, back outside. Right side up, put on two good coats Closed garage thinking I would be scuffing it up and redoing it. We cleaned up the garage, got rid of the junk, put all tools away. I went back out to look at my mess. Paints dry, no runs, looks shiny like it's wet! I know that paint fades but for what I'm asking of it, it is amazing.

I agree. Originally the tongue was supposed to be shorter but I thought about how hard it is to back up a garden cart versus the large equipment trailer and made it longer.

I'm eager to see what you are using for an axle/ suspension. A trailer like this is on my "list", AFTER I get my Jeep back on the road.

While I would like to say I'm using some fancy torflex axle or a timbren, I made bolt on spring mounts for boring 25.25 inch leaves. I have the axle stubs and hubs for 5on5.5 and the dom to build an axle. I made the hangers removable for when they wear out because nobody will care to grease the spring bushings.

+1. Would love to build one as soon as CJ5 is nearly complete. I never finish anything so says the wife. she is usually, wait always right. Lol

Great job on the trailer, and a great heads up on the paint.

The perimeter of the wood will be surrounded by steel. More to come....

The wood is just propped in place and not secured so don't get worried about the gaps

In between running to church for Easter approximately 12 hours in the last three days (yep, Russian Orthodox, if you aren't exhausted by Easter, you're doing it wrong) the kids and I managed to make the perimeter of the dump trailer sides, clean and paint the wheels and install new used tires. pics to follow today.

The wheels are off a Willys, the surrounding metal is 1/4x1 angle, heated and formed in the front to follow the wood. I have to do the rear pins, taillights, wiring and fenders, plus the latch mechanism needs a spring and rubber bumpers for when it gets banged down from full dump
