1970 134 Fhead Head Gasket Replacement

    my oil filter isn't (or wasn't since ive owned it) attached to the head bolts. its located in an inconvenient location at the front lower part of the motor.

    my throttle linkage is mounted to the driver side of the engine block, that then travels up to a bracket that is indeed mounted under a head bolt, on the driver side of the engine, and it was in place before all bolts were torqued.

    Filter canister should mount up top. It is a gravity feed from the bottom of the canister to the little spigot that shoots oil at the junction of the timing gears.
    Your generator or alternator mounts down low on the passenger side.
    And if you have them the military engine has lifting hooks mounted under 4 of the bolts, too. (the lifting hooks make a nice place to fasten the ground lead of a set of jumper cables)

    The return is actually pressure fed but since it's a bypass system I would imagine the pressure is diminished by design. The nozzle that sprays on the timing gear is under normal system pressure from the oil gallery.

    My oil filter setup. can you post a picture of what it should be? nothing is going ot get damaged in my current setup, right?

    Since yours is a '70 a spin on is the normal filter. The older kind is the cartridge kind. They both have brackets and are attached up at the right side of the engine. Someone must have relocated yours, which obviously works fine where it is.

    My only concern would be something hitting it from underneath and damaging it, but if you don't get out in underbrush or whatever I wouldn't worry about it.

    logging roads are as rough a terrain as I care to be on. I spent way too much time to abuse it, or test its limits on an actual trail.

    you guys had me wondering, NOW what's wrong with my jalopy?!?!:mad:

    That is the exact same set-up as on a 71 that I have.

    All new! Went tearing through the field with more hp than ever! The 1st lash adjusting was waaaaay off, the other 3 went easy enough and were almost spot on.
    Here is a pic of the silicone washers i made to replace the rubber grommets on the valve cover. Ugly, but works.
