looks good! FWIW, adding shocks would be super easy. I found someone on the G503.com forum that sold me two upper shock mounts from a M100 for my Bantam T3-C civilian trailer. I am still hunting the shocks though. from what I can tell any of the military 1/4 ton trailer upper shock mounts will work (from WWll vintage to Vietnam era). there are several places online that have NOS upper shock mounts.
Bantam trailers used threaded studs on the upper mounts while Willys used a stud with a hole for a washer and cotter key.
you could even fab up your own mounts seeing that you do excellent work with metal!

My upper shock mounts only cost a few bucks, and took about 20 minutes to make. I should take a few new pics with the finished product. I just went to the parts store and asked for stock early CJ5 shocks, and got the cheap ones. The travel was something like ~11" - ~18" IIRC. They are mounted at 1/2 travel at 14.5 inches. Seems to work great so far and it handles much nicer on bumps.

You could make them bolt-on very easily. Would just have to weld an extra piece to the bottom of the mount, or get a small piece of some beefy angle and cut it to fit in there nicely and bolt it in. I was thinking about you not wanting to burn through the paint after I posted that last night. I was in a different situation, with my tub being media blasted at the same time I added the shocks, so I welded mine in.

 

these are the M100 upper shock mounts. they are the same as the WWll Willys trailer mounts which all use a plain stud with a hole for a cotter key and washer. bantam upper mounts used a threaded stud.

 

How much do those go for atavuss?

Boyink, you could make some bolt-on ones about identical to those using a combo of something like mine and some angle pretty cheap. I was really surprised how much better it handled, especially hitting unexpected railroad tracks on the highway at ~55mph.

 

I paid 39.00 shipped for them, they have a lot of rust pitting but since no one will see them I did not care. Brent Mullins has NOS upper mounts for 25.00 each, plus they have the shocks in stock. their website does not say if the shocks are for a M416 or the earlier trailers. the M416 shocks will not work for the earlier vintage trailers. I already called Mullins and the upper shock mounts are the Willys type like the ones I posted a pic of, they have a stud with a hole for a washer and cotter key. this mount should work for any of the U.S. military and bantam civilian trailers.
as a FYI, the WWll Bantam trailer upper mounts were bolted in place while the Willys WWll trailer was welded in place. it appears my M100 upper mounts were bolted in place as I don't really see any grind marks where welds would have been ground off.

Mike, I am including the dimensions of my mounts so you can figure out if they will work with your frame or not.
height: 3"
length: 5.5"
depth: slightly over 1.5"
total length of stud from back of mount to hole end of stud: slightly over 4"
I just noticed that Robert posted the same info on the yahoo bantam site.........we have been trying to come up with shocks for our bantam civilian trailers that are available at Pep Boys, Autozone, etc. but no luck yet.

 

I think, based on the pic from atavuss, that the diameter of the "stud" is less than 5/8" on those original mounts. Early CJ's have a 5/8" stud IIRC. So, I am guessing that is the reason you can't walk right in and buy a perfect match?
