After a lot of search here in Greece i have found a T18 with granny low. I want to swap it in an m38a1 with d300 tcase. I know about the axles that don't align with the tcase rear yoke but this is not what i want to ask. I want to ask about the cross member. Do i have to fabricate a new one due to the weight, etc of the transmission or can i use what i allready have.

I'm using my stock crossmember with my T18 installed in my '71 CJ5. I use a T14 tranny mount, with the holes slightly enlarged, to tie into my T18/D18 adapter. I'm not sure what kind of mount you might need with your D300 adapter. I suggest getting the adapter and mount from the same source so you know they will work together.

I wan't buy an adapter for a start unless a machinist friend of mine can't do the work(i'm sure he can). Thats why i'm asking about the cross member, if i have to change it in order the driveline to be horizontal and not slightly in an angle because of the bigger transmission. Or it depents of the trans. mount that i'll use.

Did you understand anything :? :? :?

I think I understand what you are saying. ;) :D Have your machinist friend build the adapter in such a manner as to allow a tranny mount to be bolted to the bottom of the adapter. Then that tranny mount will bolt to the crossmember. As I said I use a T14 tranny mount, see if he can design his adapter to use that. Maybe use a T18/D20 mount to compare for design, relative to overall height, and spacing of the bolt holes. Then there will be no issue with the driveline not being horizontal.
You might have to move the crossmember back in the frame by one set of bolt holes to accomodate the longer length. No problem, just drill 2 new holes in the frame.

You might just want the machinist to look at it and see if he can make a mount that would work. Or you could put the crossmember in place and just adapt as its needed. Thats just one of those things thats hard to say if it will work your not.

Fivos, I have a 69 frame cross member complete with correct spacers you can have for shipping cost. It has a SMALL bend in the lower flange from bumping a rock, this can be straightened very easily. as a matter of fact I will do it if you want it. Please Email me at home if you want it. altempl@ihpc.net

Well there is another problem that must be first solve. The input shaft of the T18 is sort (6,5") to mate it in a Ford pinto 2.0L engine. The bellhousing i use is bolt on the engine since i'm using it with the T90 and its length is 7,2"
    Any suggestions?
