    Alternate title: Thank You Jeep.

Well I was going to install proper seat belt bungs today for the three point harness I installed a few years ago when I built my cage.. Originally I used nuts welded on the roll bar to mount the shoulder part. So after reading several places how this aint the safest way to mount them I bought 2 proper seat belt bungs last fall.. So today I decide to start this project. 1. Remove bolt on driver side.. Hmm. Maybe I better see if it fits? Nope goes in about 1/4" and stops dead.. So I am thinking, metric.. Down to Ace hardwar and try to ID the thread size in the bung. The bolt I have that came with the seat belts is 7/16-20.. I try the bung on all the thread size checkers. NADA.. So I cal the place I got it from.. The guys says" This bolt is only made by Jeep and is proprietary.. Go to the Jeep dealer".. Off to Jeep. Parts guy: What year.. Lets try 96 .

Superseded. And nothing listed unless you wanna buy the whole assembly. Which is like $350.. So I am thinkin I am gonna just order another set of bungs.. I can find 7/16-20 bungs all day, that are for 1-3/4 tube.. Of course mine is 2"..

Last resort, I PM a guy I know who has a yard here. Otherwise there is a pick n pull 25 miles away..

    Rant off..

I mounted some in an old van for my sister.

Went to a Pick-n-pull and got a handfull of seatbelt anchor bolts to fit the van. They are an unusual thread but I think they may be standard across vehicle makes.

    Tried a search on ebay?

Strange. 7/16-20 is supposed to be a standard.

What size/pitch are they in your case?

I called the place I bought the bungs. The site said they would fit the old jeep hardware.. These were made for a OEM Jeep 3 point harness. Hence the Jeep thread to fit the old bolts that you would remove .. Thread pitch, count and size are not listed. I can find bungs in 7/16 "X 20 but only 1-3/4" long. I need 2" length.. Tomorrow I am going to a pick n pull to see if I can find the bolts ..

Problem solved. Found a machine shop in SLC that had the correct ones in stock. 7/16"x20 thread too. They make em for Poison Spider, and had ten sets on hand.. Nice folks. I was in SLC with the banker [wife] celebratin 50 glorious year of wedlock.. And arguin over directions or her lack of ability to follow em..
