I am looking for info on rear mounted Koening PTO winches.

Not sure if it is a period correct unit for this 1966 JEEP or if perhaps it was from an older jeep and added to this one at some point. Maybe they were all the same?

Anyway, early next week I'll try to find some numbers or something and maybe post up a few pictures.

    In the meantime,

    1) the winch pulls from the top of the drum

    2) as seen from the rear of the jeep, the engagement handle is on your right (passenger side) and

    3) the winch is driven from your bottom left (driver side) directly via the PTO shaft (not via a common PTO gear box used to power other implements)

    4) the driven shaft of the winch itself (not the driveshaft from the PTO unit to the winch) continues about 6" through/past the winch body and exits to the rear of the winch housing

I know this is old, but did you ever get any info you were looking for? I have one of these and could probably answer some questions.

Could that be for a capstan drum, or would the rpm be too high?

XPR.......no. Never found anything about it and have put it on the back burner for now. Hoping to get back to it this winter after the garage is done.

Pete.......I'm thinking the pass through shaft on the winch is a sort of universal drive type deal which may allow for other mounting options besides a rear mount like this one. maybe a front mount option or even a center mount with a chain drive off the the PTO but, I haven't given it a lot of thought.

The Koenig 100 winches are all reversible.
You can flip the worm and drive it from either direction.
They made bronze driven gears having either left or right cut teeth so that you can wind the drum either direction your wanting.
I have front end, low mounted a Koenig winch that spooled up from below the bumper.
My current build has a rear mounted Braden winch.
My unmouted Ramsey winch is also a reversible design.
That said not all winches can be re-arranged for input direction.
