225 V6 valve stem seals?

I picked up some valve stem seals from Napa for my 225 V6 but Mile-Hi Jeep rebuilders said they didn't come from the factory with them. Is it still possible to install them with out any clearance problems before I tear into this project? Has anyone installed them. TIA

 

I have them on my 225, I had them installed last year when I rebuilt the engine, I only installed them on the intake valves. Thats whats generally accepted. I have not had any problem with them, I now have about 950 miles on the new motor.

 

I could be wrong but I was told if the motor 225 was never touched the valve guide is not machined to even accept a valve stem seal because as you mentioned they never came with valve stem seals.

 

Yeah the ones they sold me are different then any I have seen before. They are whitish and look just like a plastic pop bottle cap only a little smaller. I will at least pull one cover off and a spring to see how they fit and go from there.

 

I have a cutter from my old Chevy days that's made for machining valve guides just for those white nylon seals. Came in a kit, IIRC. It fits in a drill, and has a pilot shaft that goes in the valve guide. I haven't used it in 25 years or more, but I remember it worked fine. Just cut the guides down and drive the seals on, I think there was a special driver to drive the seals onto the guides. Made by Crane, maybe?

 

I was able to install seals on my V6 that weren't supposed to fit. They consisted of rubber boots that fit tightly over the head's valve stem casting (it was NOT machined for them). The umbrella ones that were stock weren't doing their job. The ones I put in had teflon sliders in a rubber cap (Perfect Circle?). The rubber cap would fit tightly over the valve stem casting if I removed a little spring that was in a groove in the cap. I put them on both the intake and exhaust valves. Worked like a charm, that was thousands of miles ago. I worried that the rubber cap would work itself offf the casting but I don't think that has happened. I was able to do this in-situ, by only removing the valve cover and using one of those one-sided spring removal tools. Took maybe 1 hour to do the job, one of my better spent hours.

 

I put umbrella seals for a 231 on my 225...worked fine

 

Do you remember where you got your seals from or maybe have a part #?

 

I'm thinking my 225 is in need of new valve stem seals. Any info on part #'s etc.
