Dual Front Fuel Tanks and 1 Fill tube.

I've looked through the forum and seen that the dual tank topic has been well discussed. For suspension reasons, I am exploring the idea of running dual underseat tanks on my pre 71 CJ5 tub. For safety reasons I will probably build an outter shell around each poly tank. I have a rear 15 gallon tank, but it isn't going to work out if I stretch the wheel base. Was wondering if there is a way to plump a fill system so that I don't have to run the jeep up both sides of a fill up island to fill each side.

used to be an aftermarket kit for '73-87 GM trucks with dual tanks (they sat outside the frame) that used a long fill neck to fill the tank on the other side.

I don't think it would be too much fab work to be able to do such a thing, unless you wanted to be able to fill up from either side (that's how the kit was set up).

 

You'd have to have a decent sized hose running from 1 tank to the other, and in this application, that would mean running right across the passenger compartment. That doesn't sound like a very good idea. I think your best bet is just have a filler on both sides & deal with pulling up to both sides of the pump if you want to fill both.

 

Or you could build a tank that extended all the way across the tub under the seats. About a year and a half ago I sold a Parts Jeep that had an aluminum tank like that. Just another option.

 

I considered one long tank spanning from the driver's to passenger side, but was worried that in off camber situations on a trail that all the fuel would move from one side to the other and leave the pickup high and dry. But I suppose filling up on each side separately isn't an issue for an non-daily driver either.

 

The beauty of two tanks is one can be valved so as to be a switched reserve.

 

Didn't the M38 (or M38A1) have a dual underseat tank that filled from the driver's side? Might check on G503.

 

M38A1 had the tank in the same place as a CJ under the drivers seat, but it was larger. There was a recessed area that hung down below the seat to accomodate the bigger tank.
